@@Doodlesthegreat thats so crazy, saw a docu about a farmer who had serious complaints and issues with Deere cause of the fact that he has always tow his combine to a certified mech to check it. Horrible for everyone who has to make money for a living with it. In Germany where I live, a lot of very old combines from the former GDR are still around, only because they have absolutely no electronics and can be maintained for a good price.

At Mecum Auction a few weeks ago. A 1960 440 with Pilot Control, bidded up to $38,000 an still didn't make reserve price. Probably eight times the cost of a new one in 1960.

Many farmers are suing boycotting Deere for not allowing customer to troubleshoot repair new farm and industrial equipment. CAT is just as bad. "Right to repair act" being ignored . Dealer charged me $975 just to come plug in a computer scanner (which no one can buy) . Not good. Deere does not have NOS parts before 1990s either . I can't get parts for my 1994 690e excavator Case and Komatsu both have self diagnostics and sell scanner to owners.

Worked for the IPSD division of CAT. Got the impression they only care about the first user of the equipment. No built-in capability to be able to overhaul engine units when worn-out. At one point they were making more profit on spares and after sales than actually building engines

I heard about this. And it's damn greed. They get away with it because we no longer know about the power of a boycott. If everybody didn't buy anything John Deere, right down to small lawn mowers, then they'd start treating the farmers and others buying that equipment with respect and put a stop to their greed. We need to learn about the power of boycotting again and put it into action. That's the only power we have against these big corporations.

I don't think your dad knows what he's talking about. This equipment wasn't meant to compete with the big Caterpillar, Le Tourneau, or Euclid equipment of the day. It was for smaller operations and it did great. I still use John Deere 2010 industrial tractor on a weekly basis.

The good old days when, apparently, some idiot would drive a digger, without even a cab, to dig a f-ing tunnel through sandstone because he was 'hard'. Has the USA ever cared a wooden cent about their own workers?

Try undergoing an OSHA inspection . "Regulations require 4 inches of separation here, you only have three and seven-eighths. That's a $20,000 fine." Most workplaces are very concerned now, because workplace injuries cost them time and money. Back then..."Bob got hurt. Bill, drive him to the hospital during your lunch break. Tom, you take over for Bob." Now, if a worker does not have and wear all required gear, including hard hats, the worker is penalized by the employer. There are doubtless still shady operators that cut ssfety corners, of course. But reputable firms have to carry insurance on the workers and the equipment. Insurance they want to never use, because it gets more 3xpensive with every use. And foremen hate new workers, so they enforce safety rules just to keep workers who need relatively little supervision healthy and working so their own jobs are easier.
