The Caddies in the dyno boat gave way to Chryslers and then finally to V8 outboards. Boat was an incredible mobile drag and thrust measuring device as well as high speed underwater photo and video platform

I have a 1962 fat four 75 hp that I still use on my 1963 Superglas. It was the first year of selectric shift that I converted to direct drive. I had to replace the needle bearings at top of the gearbox & it's inner race that is pressed or loctited onto the drive shaft. I had to fix the electrical box that now has an electronic voltage regulator & a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. I put in a new starter solenoid too. I put new hoses & plug wires. Someone installed the incorrect rotor. I put in the correct rotor for coil ignition & not Magneto. I installed a new water pump housing & impeller. I replaced parts in the thermostat block that were plastic & cracked etc. I did most of this about thirty years ago & it still runs good. I use Champion J8C spark plugs. I use 50:1 Pennzoil synthetic marine oil. I replaced the hot light with a hot light & buzzer. I had to replace the Carburetor float about ten years ago. I replaced the fuel pump rubber diaphragm, that is good for modern fuel. I added a string to work the choke if I am by myself, since as explained in the shop manual the auto position was not reliable. I test the engine each year in a barrel of water & let warm up 5 minutes & check cylinder head temperature at location specified in manual. I also test water discharge temperature I use a temperature gun. It is direct drive & only starts in low throttle position & I have an electric trolling motor & paddles to get away from the dock & other boaters. Most of the time I only have to choke at initial at start up unless it is a cold day. I also make sure the battery is fully charge the night before, since the engine is high compression. It does polute a bit but believe the synthetic oil is not as bad for the enviroment? Since my engine is not selectric shift - I can used synthetic good quality gear oil in the lower unit. I always use nylon washers on the drain plugs as was recommended by OMC.

Loving this, I have a 1983 50hp looper, it runs WO throttle 80% of the time, it runs perfect, we used to build good things in the USA. MAGA!

grew up with these. Many still running today still! I lived on long island NY. salt destroyed all other motors but I still see 1975 OMC 115v4 and 70 3cylinders still going!!! Yamaha stole omc designs totally.

Sure looks like him. Worked with him for several years. A friend of mine has all of his hand written notes added to a service bulletin folder he carried with him when he was on the road for OMC

Heavy wide V4 was not the best from OMC. Low on power compared to the black motor competition.
