1950s EVINRUDE MOTORS BIG TWIN OUTBOARD MOTOR PROMOTIONAL FILM WATER SKIING 48514

This early 1950s advertising color film produced by Evinrude Motors for its Big Twin outboard motor series showcased with water skiing power. The film begins with a large number of kids and teenagers carrying water skis while riding their bicycles down a Long Island street (0:30-1:02). Older teenage girls wearing 1950s two-piece bathing suits approach the Bruce Parker Water Skiing school sign, named for water skiing hall of famer and multi-year national champion Bruce Parker (1:03-1:30). The bathing suit beauties get in a boat powered by a prominently displayed Evinrude boat motor, which is shown in operation from above and below under the water. The girls are given a tour at high-speeds, the teenager boy showcasing the motor’s speed and agility (1:31-3:22). The three girls practice water skiing on land, and then practice skiing behind the boat, and then dry-land onto the shore (3:23-4:15). Champions Bruce Parker and Evie Wolford, as well as a the Mexican water ski jumping champion of the time, demonstrate water skiing trick riding with Evie on Bruce’s shoulders and a backwards jump (4:16-4:59). Evie and her sister demonstrate skiing through marsh grass (5:00-6:24). Three skiers are pulled from a dry grass start into the water, and then perform stacked lift tricks (6:25-7:06). Dave Harrison joins Evie and Winnie ski through the grasslands and the water, pulled by a single Evinrude motor (7:07-9:00). The Evinrude motor is shown once more up-close in the water as the film ends.

Those were the good ole days for sure, back in the 50's I spent some time living on a lake in WI when I was a kid, stayed with water-skiing until the mid 1980's, crowded lakes and expensive boats took me away from it....

I had a water ski class through Cal St Northridge at Castaic Lake in 1985, probably my favorite class in all my college years! Sure beat the heck out of chemistry! 😂

So bizarre that they don't have a hand throttle. Poor Tom has to keep one hand on the wheel and the other on the tiller-throttle. No possible way can Tom cop a feel.

haha all big twins had a twist grip throttle what are you talking about? he just used the tiller to "speed up" his turn instead of using the helm in really tight quarters.
