I thought these 1960 Ramblers were dorky looking when they were ten to twenty years old back in the 1970s, now they are cool, unique and fascinating.

My grandfather bought a new rambler every year! TheAMC saying was “when you ride in a rambler, everyone looks at you“ or something like that. My mother and her sisters hated those cars probably because they were not cool when they were teenagers. So she and her sisters used to say “when you ride in a rambler, everyone laughs at you“ 😂

I would buy that car if it were put back on the market today.😮

AMC was on a roll. Even with the Big 3 introduction of compact cars for 1960, Rambler moved up to number three selling brand.

We had a 1960 Rambler as the family car from 1960 to 1967. Most of this video seems in accord with my memory -- except the windshield wipers. That overlap in the center never worked right. The tips would catch each other instead of having the left wiper overlap under the right one. Multiple trips to the dealer never succeeded in fixing this problem. Frequent stops in the rain to get out and untangle the wipers were the result. Fortunately, this didn't result in burned out motors or blown fuses. The reason for that was probably that the wipers were powered by vacuum rather than electricity. That's mentioned in the video. Every other car I'm familiar with has had electric wipers but I'm aware that vacuum was used for this function at one time.

We had one of these when I was a kid. It was a very rigid construction and the doors closed tightly like a refrigerator. Rode to Florida in it. No AC!

I was driving in 1960. These Ramblers were scarce because they were ugly unreliable and were considered nerd cars.

Wrong! One of the most reliable and longest lasting cars available at the time. Rambler was also the third best selling car in 1959, beating Plymouth and Buick!

@@danielulz1640 That’s why you see so many still on the road still today.

@@danielulz1640 Today, I asked several people, when is the last time you’ve seen an AMC or Rambler driving on any road. The answer is the 70’s. The reason is…they were ugly, unreliable and they were and still are a nerdmobile.

My mother and her sisters would agree with you. When they were teenagers they had to ride in them with my grand parents. My mom and her sisters had a saying “when you ride in a rambler everyone laughs at you”. My grandfather bought a new one every year maybe because I was already worn out?!
