1960's Southend on sea.

Some more of my Dad's cinefilm movies here. This time it must be mid 1960's and we are in Southend on sea.
You can just about hear the sea gulls and smell the candy floss as we wander around the seaside resort.

All of these shots brought back the magic. I'd forgotten that Popeye and the Crooked House but as soon as I saw it I was 10 years old again. That boating pool was brilliant too. I feel for my poor Mother having to trail my younger brother and me around Peter Pan's Playground and the countless trips we took on that Pier and the jam or banana sandwiches she made for us to take on Southend Beach (full of pebbles).

Ahh. The Excel Bowling alley, on the pier. My Daddy sold the Excel company carpet and furnishings... and supplied much of the inside decor. There was a decent restaurant upstairs, too. As a 16 year old I once spent a whole day bowling for free at the bowling alley.. We were testing a new kind of bowling pin. It was made of plastic instead of maple wood. Bowling for free sounds great... but doing it for hours, the novelty wears off and your shoulder gets very tired.

Loved this film. Took me back to my childhood. Remember Popeye in his boat well. Wonder where he is now.

The slide with the coconut matt felt quite dangerous as a kid and i remember but not sure watching a puppet theartre show poss westcliffe and the song mouse lived in a windmill great memories❤

Was there more in the early 70s. Great memories. Loved the Golden Hind, the pier and the Kursaal. Forgot about Popeye. Anyone remember Cafe Caroline on the front at Shoeburyness? Went there lots with my mum and dad. Lovely jukebox and pinball machine too.

Thats a good question. After getting it put on disc the reels went back to my parents but they have moved house since. I will ask my Dad next time I talk to him.
