My intention for the videos are not to be "how to" videos (I think there are amazing videos made by others far qualified than me) instead my focus is to create a platform where "ordinary" people who love cars get an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. It truly is a car that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

I'm a bit confused about the "No high beam" chat, as there's a dip switch visible on the floor to the left of the clutch pedal. Maybe it's not working on this particular car, but all Beetles of this era had dipping main beam (high beam) lights from the factory.

Engine is from a later model. looks like a 1200cc which came out in 1962. My first car was a 1960 beetle. 1.1 litre top speed 69 miles per hour. Took the bumper bars off one day, top speed 72 miles per hour. No fuel gage instead a floor mounted lever, engine sputters, flick the lever with foot, and another 36 miles to get you to the next town to refuel.

@@ClassicCarChitChat Before 1962, no bugs had fuel gauges unless you "after marketed" one. What they had, was an emergency reserve tank which you activated by a switch. This was how you gauged to get more fuel..next available opportunity. It wasn't a lot in there, but would in most cases give one enough time to fill up
@keithad648519 күн бұрын
I think they were an optional extra prior to 1962, but have only ever seen one, and it was on 57 model and looks very different to the standard fuel gage which came out in 1962. long and verticle due to being mechanical and float operated (not electric).

9:27...Those were called "Snowflake" taillights. 10:34...My dad had a ceramic green '60 bug which I believe did NOT have the "Wolfsburg Crest" on the hood. For some reason VW did not have it on their '60 bugs. But apparently by popular demand, they put it back on their bugs in 1961 and 1962. They again discontinued it in 1963, this time for good. 14:45...1960 bugs (US export models at least) was the last year for the 36 hp motor, easily recognized by having a "high shrill" sound when upshifting. Yours does not appear to have it. Also, 1966 bugs was the 2nd year (US export models at least) for the larger greenhouse (larger windows). That ruined the cute looks of the bugs for me. Also, that one in the picture looks like a '68 or newer bug (whole different bumpers). I cannot speak for Italian export models. 15:20...No high beams? There should be a switch on the floor that you hit with your left foot to activate the high beam. A blue light shows up on the speedometer to show you that the high beam is on. 17:03...Yours is the first I have ever seen with that anti-insect windshield protector! Was that specifically made for VW bugs? Also, your door cards though not original, do look great. My '61 bug had those same hard to find "eyebrows" above the headlights. I believe they were a dealer option. And the fuzzy dice (also not original) do add a nice touch.

Loved watching this as I own an MGB and VW 1960. The engine is not original though. It should be a 35 HP with foot supporting the dynamo (not alternator) part of the block. Also you should have a manual chocke, not an auto, and 6 volts wiring. And hearing the sound of the car driving, the gear box is modern, you don't have the typical whining sound of the original split case gear box. The car stands low, the steering wheel is a flat four replica, the upholstery is made by TMI. So, nice little car, but very very far from factory original.
@ClassicCarChitChat4 ай бұрын
Vikos, wow first of all thank you for owning an MGB. They truly are wonderful and fun little cars. Not the fastest (unless you throw in a V8 or convert to electric) but they do have character and get plenty of thumbs up when driving around as sure as your VW does too. The VW is really masterful engineering that has stood the test of time.
