I've owned one of these since they were produced in the mid seventies. A real workhorse, amazing durability.

Wow thank you so much for the information! Looking to get a typewriter for my partner who is looking to write. Lots of writing! I love how sleek and stylish this is, while still remaining retro and super functional. All the ins and out you showed just convinced me to jump on one at an incredible price! How exciting. Thank you!!

Nice review! I have a couple Galaxies in the queue waiting to be cleaned and fixed. My kids love the power spacer.

Nice video! I like these machines, though their wider carriage is a bit of a detraction from the super-5 series, IMO. Another special key on these machines is the right-hand key on the second row from the top, it's the de-jammer key. I've only seen the power space feature on these and some Brothers. In fact, today I saw a chinese-branded Brother clone with the power space key. I think it's interesting how industrial design followed the fashion trends of the day. The super-5 series look very much like the automobiles of the early/mid-1950s, with their rounded curves; while this Galaxie looks like a Ford Galaxy 500 from the 1960s.

Joe Van Cleave Thanks Joe. I should have mentioned that. I was running long, typical of me. Love your videos.

That's terrific! I've used this machine for quite a while and did not know the purpose of this key.

In discussing the 5 and 6 series machines, I feel like I'm an odd-man out in that I prefer the 6 series over the 5. The design just speaks to me. Then again, I do have a 1947 Sterling with the older body style and the diagonal black "racing stripes" - the design that's clearly the predecessor to the 5 series body style, and I like that machine, so, it seems to be something subtle about the 5 series that turns me away, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Thanks for writing Kurisu. Design is very subjective. There are several typewriters that are pure art, and others that just don't appeal to me. It's like auto design. Some cars look odd to me, others are breathtaking beautiful. Fortunately, there are enough styles that we can find one that pleases us. Thanks for taking the time to write.
