In 1961 we went from Washington State down to Disneyland where we accidently bumped into Walt Disney himself as he was driving his grand kids around the grounds in a golf cart. He stopped right in front of us and he reached out and shook my hand. Boy was I surprised!! ;-)

I’ve been collecting a digitizing film and photographs for about 20 years and I’ve noticed this same condition mostly in California, New York, Massachusetts and parts of Illinois concerning big cities. I’m sure there are others, but those seem to be the most prevalent. Photos and film from the 50s and 60s show predominantly clean cities but when you look at the same same place as today not so much. Thank you for watching.

I was born there in 1959. The family filming this were probably about the same age as my parents (my mom's 94 now and I’m 65) Nice to see so many landmarks from my childhood. Dino's Restaurant featured big in my history. Gone now. And what was that "Southern Costal Route"? Obviously they read that name off a map from the day. We always called it Pacific Coast Highway, or PCH. Actually the graphics were very good for home movies from 1961. Thanks for sharing…😃

@@OfficeofImageArchaeology Was born at Cedars and lived in Hollywood for five decades. After the deinstitutionalization movement began in California in the 1960s, many state mental health hospitals closed, forcing many folks who needed a lot of care onto the streets. Without those facilities, many mentally ill people ended up in jails and prisons which are not set up to provide safe, compassionate care for brain illnesses. BUT in 1981, when President Ronald Reagan deinstitutionalized the mentally ill and emptied the psychiatric hospitals into so-called “community” clinics, the problem got worse.... much, MUCH, worse and here we are.

Most big cities under democrat control have all suffered similar fates. San Francisco used to be romantically beautiful place I used to take the family. I haven’t been there for 15 years and I only live a hour and a half away. A disgusting place avoiding by normal folks if possible.

@@OfficeofImageArchaeology I live in Vancouver BC Canada now. (At least, I live in one of the outlying areas in the Fraser Valley, but we go into the city proper once in a while ) It's the same thing here, and the government of BC is the Canadian equivalent of the DemonRats in the US. @@johannaholmgren8088 Most socialists I know are socialists because they can _afford_ to be. Problem is, the U.S. _can't_ afford it anymore; we're broke. But they keep spending money like they've got it, because when the shit hits the fan it'll be someone else's problem by then, and they're hoping it'll be Republicans holding the bag when it happens.

Your sister is the same age as my sister; we were living in Long Beach when she was born; I was 5 y/o. And I'll be the first to tell ya it was a great time and a great place to grow up. I finally left L.A./Orange County for good back in 1972, and coming back 50 years later it's turned into a dystopian cesspool. Now whenever I travel down to SoCal to visit family I purposely avoid the I-5 corridor all the way down; I take US-395 through the eastern Sierra, straight down I-15 to Murrieta. Don't wanna be anywhere _near_ L.A. or the Central Valley, it's bad enough I gotta drive through the IE to get to Temecula.

This is quite likely 8mm film taken from a portable movie camera. We didn't have video tape recorders back then, 8mm movie cameras were the thing if we wanted moving pictures; and 8mm never came with sound. So even though they coulda put background music on this the silence sorta keeps its authenticity, because that's what I remember from back then -- plus the clickety-clack of the movie projector playing the 8mm movie on the projection screen.

I grew up in the middle of the San Fernando Valley and lived there until I moved to another state in 1982. Back then, I loved California. It was beautiful, traffic was reasonable, people took care of their properties and had the water to do it without spending a fortune, the food was fabulous, and life was good. Then the hippy movement happened and everything went downhill from there, especially the politics, which is why California is a complete mess despite Reagan (when he was governor) having left the state a surplus of funds when he left office. The Democrat policies are disastrous everywhere they're voted in. DON'T VOTE DEMOCRAT unless you want more of the money-wasting, over-taxing, and more illegal aliens GIVEN everything for free, including the vote!

No shit on the sidewalks,,what's going on??
@briane1732 ай бұрын
NOTHING on the sidewalks. Back then we all took some pride in our homes and property, some pride in our community. In today's "you owe me" society, which is promoted by leftist leadership at all levels of government, nobody gives a shit; in fact assuming you don't get capped by a carjacker or gangbanger first, your nicely-kept home is probably a target just on general principles. "Oppressed vs. oppressor" and all that shit, ya know. That is, of course, assuming you can afford to live in L.A. at all. Highest-taxed State in the nation, highest property values, most prohibitive cost of living anywhere in America. That's precisely why I don't go back; I can't afford to.
