This car is so unique. I hated these cars when I was a young boy back in the 60's. I'm 66 now and I would love to buy this car but it's not the time. Beautifully Strange!

The slant six came out in the Valiant in 1960. Also Ward Cleaver started out driving a Ford Fairlane in their first house. When they moved, Plymouths were featured.

Ugly car but in a good way. Ugly cars are always a hit at car shows. Too bad about the pin striping.

Don't know why, but when I look at this (awesome) car, I think of the Jetson Mobile from the Jetson's cartoon. 😆

Mopar designs from early 60`s where unique in the industry and Fury`s got a flat style in deck lid and fenders/hood lines, greatest visibility of any 59/62 era`s cars. Good to have some spares, specially those front A arms ball joints, but I`m nor sure if are they upper or lower. Here, at Bogotà Colombia, we used to sell those ball joints from the 1973/1976 A bodies and the F/M Aspen/Volare from 1976 /1980 as well, are quite the same according to a Moog`s chassis and parts catalogue issue from 80`s as I can recall. I did notice also the Electronic ignition from Mopar, because the Ignition module attached to a right inner fender. Good to see something like that still on the road, featuring a 225 Slant Six, what a such special unit.

Now that is art! Pinstripes hideous. Wonder how difficult to remove them, and they infected the engine bay too.

Awesome Fury. Steering wheel is an optional one and incorrect taillight lenses. Speedometer called a Ribbon style.

We had a 1960 belvedere hardtop, first year of slant 6. "30-D economy six " decal on the valve cover, meaning 30 degree slant. we had a 59 Savoy with flathead 6. This was in 1971. Slant six valves always loose and ticking, didnt hurt them a bit. Fins were out of style in 1960, but it looked better with the fins than the 61 without. Always loved the sweeping roofline.

Almost ugly ! And in 1963 I bought a Sport Fury…..loved it ! Thx👍🏻. I do not remember seeing a steering wheel like this 1961….a sport fury with a six cylinder….unheard of ! 👍🏻

You mentioned these are not seen often. Actually they weren’t seen a whole lot when they were new. While the competitors Fordand Chevrolet were in the first year of a very tasteful restyle, Plymouth styling was poorly received,. Chrysler made the situation for Plymouth worse by deciding to compete with itself in the Low Price Three segment with the Dodge Dart. On TV the 61 Plymouth ( a plain Jane Savoy) appeared in the situation comedy called Car 54 Where Are You as a police car. This was ironically appropriate because a larger than usual percentage of sales was to fleet buyers who didn’t care what they looked like.

It's been too customized. These cars were beautiful enough stock. It looks like somebody got bored and overdid it. Lose the pinstriping, that godawful blue metallic paint and the custom chrome wheels and the bizarre taillights!

Amazing how a color makes a huge difference to the look of a car. People down the road had a 61 Belvedere all red, well kept but always looked ugly, red on red on red. 90's was brought by a local striped and restored painted white below the belt line & red, hood, roof, trunk. It just screamed "atomic 60's, Thunderbird's, Capt Scarlet sci fi" brought out the shape, detailing & chrome. That Teal with blue is classy (pin stripes bit over kill but each to their own)
@hughjass10442 ай бұрын
It's true, they weren't the most well loved designs around at the time but that's A-OK by me. I luv 'em along with just about any of the early 60's Mopars.

woooooo a slant 6 in that beast............must have done 0 to 60 in 30 seconds. I like the mint green but the pin stripes spoils it.

This car is 100% beautiful, back when cars had artful design. You would need a BIG garage, I'd get rid of the Ratfink and pinstripes, imagine this beautiful machine with a stroked Mopar small block. You would have to dress appropriately drive this thing...think Mad Men style.

How did a design like this even get approved?! But 1959- 61 cars famously were goofy looking, Chrysler products especially. And then top it off with underpowered engine for that car--and add A/C. Ugly and slow. Amazing.

My oldest brother gave me a 1961 two-door hardtop Belvedere maybe blue with a white roof the both of us rebuilt the motor in it at 80,000 miles I had it for about four months in the throwout bearing went out in the clutch and I had to stick it down the backyard so my father could fix it and we had a great big hurricane came through the Aryan creek behind the house flooded the car and ruined that car but while I had a chance to drive for five months I really enjoyed that car I wouldn’t mind having another one I’m now almost 75 years old find memories of my first carThanks to my brother
