Nice ride. There’s a yield sign shortage. So stop signs were used in their place. Those old Mopars had the park lever and push button automatics. Of course the unique whine of the high speed starter reminds us that all Mopars started the same way for many years.

They were reduction-gear starters. The motor spun faster than the actual bendix drive.

They called it a "high energy" starter.

I guess there’s no brakes since he did the “California Roll” through the stop sign.

When I was growing up, my family's primary car was a 1961 2-door Plymouth Savoy that my folks bought in October 1961. I remember the speedometer with the red squares. In the later years we that we had the car, the speedometer stopped working, so when we were out on the road with it, my dad would bring it up to speed and would remark to whoever was riding with him, "Well, that's about right," We had the car for eighteen years.

I owned one of these cars, bought it from the original owner. It had a 361cu.in. 2/4 bbl. Afb. carbs super commando motor. Car was a dream boat, torque monster. He's right, get on the interstate & run 80 mph all day. Loved that car! Should have kept the car& got rid of the wife!

awesome ride. My mom had a 62 dodge with that cool spedometer with the red squares coming up. I haven't seen that since the 60's. Push button drive with manual choke, my mom would choke the car to death. Does this car have no power steering or brakes. her's didn't have that feature yet. I remember the cool dash console, with the turn signals, wish I'd seen that here. The blind spots with the big rear view on the dash, and the wipers thats didn't clear the water properly. but it was a big huge fun car to ride in. I grew up in southern Ontario, The province used toxic road salt back then, ate cars alive. The body was rusted right out in less then 8 years. I would lift the floor mat and see the road going by below. lol. great memories.

I'd forgotten how the dashboard of a '61 Plymouth looked like. Then I saw the June 1991 issue of "Collectible Automobile." There, it has an article about the 1960-1961 Plymouths. I said to myself, "So THAT is how it looks!" Looks space-age! (10/23/2021)

yes, the dash. suppose to look like space program, push button drive, the lines that went up on the dash were cool.

Also the house design. Some of them must have been built by the same builder of my home. Carbon copy layout.

My parents had a 60 Belvedere 4 dr back in the day. 318 V8 with PS and radio/heater. Great old car but the front brakes were prone to locking up.

Chrysler didn’t have a park lock until 1963. You had to push the neutral button and set the emergency brake to keep from rolling away. The emergency brake was actually on the front of the driveshaft, at the rear of the transmission.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
