John fought won the US amateur 🏆😸👍😁🎯 there in 1977 - my buddy " JW " caddied for him the next year in the Masters - he worked for Doug Sanders carol Mann" bud "Allin Bob Murphy and Dave eichleberger on the tour - JW was a great 😃👍😁🎯 super terrific 👍😁💯✅🎈 guy I haven't seen in years and I hope he's doing well ❤️‍🩹 !

Holy Shit, Chris Schenkel even back then, he's truly been the official voice of Golf. Just all of the moments in golf that you can relate to his voice. Priceless!

After 1962 Arnold Palmer would win only one more major for the rest of his career. (1964 Masters). At age 35 in 1964 he should won a lot more than 7 majors. Had 3 second place finishes at the PGA Chamionship (64, 68.70).

Lost 2 more (in addition to 62') US Open playoffs (63' and 66'), finished 2nd to Nicklaus in 67' and had his chances in 64', 69' and 72' through 75'. He also frittered away the 59' and 61' Masters; he could have won 5 straight. Palmer should have won a dozen majors, at least.

It was the 2nd time in 3 years that Palmer was within 1 stroke of winning the Masters , US and British Opens in the same year.

Yes, the current reference to the British Open as simply “The Open”, was marketing genius as it was used by the R&A starting 15-20 years ago and it stuck. Good observation
