A bunch more items checked off the list over the past several days on the 1962 Triumph TR4 Restoration Project. We ran into a big overheating issue and had to do some troubleshooting to solve the problem....
Be sure and check the Rusty Beauties Channel as well for regular updates.

Special Thanks to Dr. Carburetor for stopping by. If you need some help with your SU carbs, You can find him here..

That's a great job on the top. I remember having issues with mine back in the 70's. Can't wait to see this car up close. 🙂

Yeah, I’m quite happy with the top now that we managed to get the bows situated where they needed to be at the seams on the top.

Great video Guy's.. I do have a soft spot for Minilites and they look awesome on the TR-4. As for the Rad.. Well diagnosed and cured proved by that great new gadget of Elin's. The whole thing looks amazing .. Well done to you both.

Yeah. I've never managed to balance my Stag carbs using the 'lift the slide' method. Plug the colourtune in and Bam! Got it in a couple of turns. Good call with the wheels too.👍

What! No Unisyn! I still have my Unisyn from the days of owning a Spit Mk4....don't miss that...and yes, I remember the engine RPM dropping when using it.
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
Dr Carburetor brought his unisyn…I have a couple as well but prefer the snail type if there is space available in the engine bay for it.

Shall I add an endoscope to your Christmas list, Elin? I picked up a 4mm one for £30 on Amazon, simply plugged into my android phone and with Inskan software was viewing all kinds of build defects in exhaust systems. Not heat resistant - you'd pay much more for that - but it has been through the washing machine twice and is still functional! Best £30 tool I have.

It’s funny, but neither Elin or I have one….definitely on the shopping list for the future.

Hi George, if we still suspected that there would be an issue with the rad, then we would have swapped it out. We will continue to test it though over the next few weeks.

Great new toy he has there, and it worked well to help identify that mess in the rad. You guys have done a super job, hears hoping you get a pass on the inspection actually I'm pretty sure you will !

Good video David; lots of bits and bobs attended to. If you have not given this TR4 a name yet, may I suggest 'RAD(iator)RAT ROD'? lol

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a radiator mouse problem before. I've had the little quadrapeds set up camp in an engine bay and on top of a fuel tank... not to mention finding them in the upholstery. But inside the radiator? That's a new one! Must be a different breed of rodents in Canada! Just as destructive as our Califnia bred ones, though.

The in-line 4 is viewed as the “purest” British sports car engine I just heard recently. The tr4s actually handle better than tr6 I’ve heard too because of lower weight in front
@jamessimmons8352
@jamessimmons8352 Жыл бұрын
I agree, but maybe biased since I owned a TR4. But it had a fixed rear axle, and I liked the feel of the TR6's independent rear suspension. The TR6 had the power, exhaust sound, and feel that made you one with the car. If only I could have afforded one back in the day. 🙂

Could you soak the inside of the radiator with a non corrosive drain cleaner solution and try to disolve some of that crud before flushing? I probably would have done that, right or wrong. :-)
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
I think the radiator is pretty clear now. We must have flushed it 20 times. We didn’t get anything out the last 4-5 times.

Judicious use of a heat gun or hair dryer will allow you to stretch that old top into the correct position.

Is that not a problem of all Triumph that they overheat ? I rember of a scene of the Wheeler Dealer they have use a special coolwater.
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
No, they don’t all overheat. Especially when the car is moving….the car overheated when Elin was driving it with airflow going through the radiator….that’s a very bad sign. Yes, there is a waterless coolant that you can use in these cars and another product called “ water wetter”

A Triumph TR4 is not a car worth putting a high end stereo into. As a former TR4A owner, I can safely say that the wind and road noise at speed drowns everything out.

@@frankmgallohi Frank, yes it is. I wanted something that I didn’t have to worry about scratching and denting. Mechanically, the car is very sound of course. I’ll call this car, “ the loaner” as it will be a good car to lend out occasionally to friends who want to tag along to a show or a drive etc. I won’t have to worry about it as much, nor will they.
