Well, Elin and I were talking about this very topic….this TR4 was only slated to be restored after I complete a TR3A, TR6 and TR8 project so realistically, we were looking at another 10 years before we even touched it….

Another point is that this video series may encourage guys to restore their car as a “rolling restoration” vs. spending years with their car apart in the garage. (13 years in my case.)

@@DavesTR4A realistically Dave, this car wasn’t even going to be touched for at least 10 years from now as I had a TR3A, TR6 PI and TR8 restoration ahead of it, so it’s good to get this one up and running.

Maybe it's different in person, but that clear coat looks great on the video, seems like a decent option to protect a driver-quality car.

I know what you mean about the trunk (boot?) handle. Always bugged me that it's crooked on my TR4... just not enough to try to do anything about it! 😎 For a truly accurate restoration, you would need to modify the handle on your car, so it's crooked too!😂

It’s pretty easy to re-key the various locks to match a single key (or one for the ignition and doors, and one for the glovebox and boot as they originally came!) if you wanted to. You can pop the barrels out of the locks and rearrange the brass tumblers inside to make it work with your key of choice. I did make a ‘how to’ video on doing this for a boot lock myself, but don’t think it came out all that well…

I never lock the doors in my Triumphs anyway so I don’t have to worry about door keys.

Question: I know Elin likes the original equipment distributors but have you ever used one of the 123Tune electronic distributors?

I’ve fitted a 123 distributor to the Alfa Romeo. The problem with fitting it to a triumph is that there is no provision for a tach cable so the gauge would have to be converted to digital.

They are very close but it does indeed clear.

Do you have to get it inspected and certified road-worthy and new registration/tags? I assume so. When is that planned! Can’t wait to see it fully street legal. 😊. Oh… one last question… What’s the long term plan for her…. A daily driver? Maybe sell her? Just curious.

Hi james, yes exactly that. It needs to be inspected and certified before I can get a plate for it to be road legal. I’m hoping this happens in the next couple weeks. Long term plan is to keep it. I’ll drive it occasional as I’m sure Elin will. The car will be used as a loaner as well for friends that might want to tag along and come to an event.

Not sure if I had to take the plates off before you picked it up, but if not I likely still have the plates from the car CWT573. These plates were the last year before Ontario started keeping the plates and just applying a renewal sticker. That means the renewal sticker "stack" is quite thick and suits the theme of the car since it has never been restored, only fixed to keep it running. If you want them, they are yours.

Hi Dave, Red Pat is looking pretty cool and I’m more than impressed with that wipe-on clearcoat now, ( I actually didn’t know it was available)… Q: For general home use, do you think it dries hard enough to cut & buff - if someone really wanted to go to that amount of effort? 🤔

Hi Phil, yes. I believe if you did two coats of the clear you could cut and buff it. You’d have to use the catalyst with it like I did. Apparently, you can use the clear as is without the catalyst but it doesn’t hold up as well.
