The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion attracts some of the rarest cars and gives some 550 owners the chance to compete in their vintage race cars against cars from the same era and class.
While the largest chunk of cars participating will be sports cars and prototypes from the 1960s and 1970s, there is tremendous variety. Get there early enough, and you can see cars from Pre-1940 battle it out on Laguna Seca’s famed corkscrew turn, sporting wooden wheels that flex and groan over bumps and through corners.

I was there on the grid that week, visiting from The Netherlands. I didn't even see races, but it was beautiful!! Nothing we ever see here, and all the enthousiasts who cared so deeply for their awesome vehicles. Some costing only a few k's, and I'm sure there were multi-million cars too. Everyone was approachable and nice, I could walk right up to the cars and talk to the owners. This was awesome, and I hope to be in California again. Best car culture. Love to y'all.

Compare distributor locations on a Ford and Chevy small block. Ford is up front, Chevy is at the firewall. Thanks for the great video!

4:20 - Look for the arrangement of the exhaust ports on the heads (Chevy will have the inner pair on either side appear as siamesed, though they are separate, Ford has evenly spaced ports), as well as the distributor locations on each. The SBF will have the distributor in the front of the engine (where it SHOULD be, for ease of adjustment), and the SBC will be at the rear, next to the firewall.

The majority of them are "stock" cars that were built for racing back in their time period. All the cars should have a race history from the period to compete at the Historics, unless there is a rare example.

it is very easy to hear the difference between a small block chevy and a 289 ford, the 289 winds MUCH higher in RPMS, very distinct sound difference. 289 has a very high pitched sound for a v8

Can't tell a small Ford V8 from an SBC, in sound and/or visually? The 90 degree Ford (SBF) was orignally a truck motor? News to the Fairlane group who designed it. People who know almost nothing useful about American cars should do commentary on some other type of motorsport. Sounds like they belong @ a Mecum or Barrett-Jackson event. Can't mute them and hear the important stuff, so won't stay for the end. Pitiful.
