The 300hp 327's in '63 were quick and reliable, the 409's were known to blow up when ran hard, thus few survive today as originals.

I disagree here. I had 63 ss with 409-340 hp with 4 speed. I gave that car all the punishment I could give it and it never failed me. I also had a 64 ss with same engine combo plus a 60 Chevy pick up with same combo. None of these motors ever failed me. Plus a 59 convert with 348-250 hp with auto. Which I drove for 4 years and never failed me. If these cars failed I’m sure driving outside of factory limits would be the reason. Get your facts straight before making statements as these.
