The 289 4 bl. was available in the 63' Fairlane, however single exhaust only because of design limitations. Ford almost had the Mustang ready by this time, and were trying to zero out it's 260 inventory. You could legitimately call this engine swap a "Day 2" modification.

Some friends of mine have the 1963 Mercury Comet station wagon with 260 V8 and a 4speed trans. Power steering but regular brakes. Very nice vehicle.

I would *really* be impressed if it had the 3rd seat! (beautiful car, still..)

Love it, it's beautiful. A friend of mine, from Canso, Nova Scotia his father had a 63 Country Squire 260 Automatic, white exterior not as fancy as this. I've never forgotten how quick that little thing was.

I like the fins, tastefully done, very first gen Thunderbird like. They rounded the back in 64'.

Thanks, nice Ford…. Apparently, FORD made quite a few odd Manuel/ car#…..Interestingly.a 1966**4 speed/ GALAXIE 500 XL was my “:find” in 1967 : thru Pharmacy School& after 1973…building upgrades, & nice cruiser…..Ford threw some four speeds around………great stuff , esp. 1963s.
