In the late 70s I had an Aussie 62 XL Falcon sedan with a 170ci six. It was in very good condition and would cruise all day on 70mph.

My first car was an Aussie built Falcon XL (Kurrajong Green with an Artic White roof) 170 engine and manual transmission, stock standard except for extra gauges. I remember driving my first girlfriend around in it. Happy memories of both!

From the real home of the Ford Falcon (Australia) ..This is gorgeous ..You did very well . We had the Falcon from 1960 to 2016 over 24 different iterations before Ford Australia ceased ..We built about four million of them . I currently have my 23 year old AU ll Futura and my 2008 FG XR6 ...Look up Australian Falcons and you will see our love affair with one of Ford's great cars..

I am doing a RHD conversion on my channel . Mine is a 2 Door in Australia and here they are as rare as rocking horse poo. Thousands of 4 doors, but the Australian Falcon has a totally different front to it. Eventually I will put a 289 in mine, but the RHD conversion is first. I bought a 63 Futura way back in 98, with a 144 and Ford-O-Matic. She was rusty, but it was bought for a hot rod project using a 2.3 5urbo and A4LD from an 85 mustang. We installed a narrowed 8 inch rear with SVO disks, and ladder bar suspension. The next step was going to be a TCL front suspension. Unfortunately life happens and I sold it for 300 bucks.

Back in the '60's when Ford was building the Cobra with Carol Shelby the first Cobras had the Ford 260 in them. Shelby managed to build up the little 260 to deliver 260 hp. So one hp per cubic inch! not bad at all....
@IowaMercMan Жыл бұрын
DidI heard you correctly? If the carb is 600cfm, that’s waaaaaay too much carb for a 260. Summit Racing has a cfm calculator. Recommend you try it, or a calculator of your choosing… so you get a result matched to how you’re going to drive it. **Great purchase! I dig it.
@deadwaitdesigns Жыл бұрын
Yea the guy I bought it from put it on. Fires right up and runs ok, but it’s more carb than I think the motor can handle. It’s a really nice carb though. Can’t complain about that.

Nice car, they look great lowered on fat tyres. Not sure how that would go without power steer tho... 😮
@deadwaitdesigns Жыл бұрын
Going to have to lower it for sure. I’d love to get rid of the leafs, but we’ll see. Probably just blocks for now. If I can find a used steering box from a p/s car, I’d love to swap it in. Little complicated with the steering column having to be shortened, but we’ll see what I can find!

An original engine for that year would be black. If someone shot blue over the black, you would still find spots of black here and there. If no black is seen, the engine is '66-up 289 or 302. In that case the trans would be a C4. Original intake would also be black. Casting number?
@deadwaitdesigns Жыл бұрын
Casting number is C30E-6015B, which looks like it could either be a 260 or 289 HiPo, which I would seriously doubt. I've got the original 2bbl riser and it says 260 on the bottom of it, but that could have been reused.
@413x398 Жыл бұрын
@@deadwaitdesigns From here you go to the casting numbers of the heads and block!

Just be aware the 221 & 260 had a 5 bolt bellhousing pattern, as did the early 289.
@deadwaitdesigns Жыл бұрын
Yeah not a huge fan of the Fordomatic, but it's a packaged deal with the motor. The plan is to drive the wheels off of it until one or both of those components give out. I've been keeping my eye out for a good 302 + transmission combo, but I'm not having much luck at the moment.
@IowaMercMan Жыл бұрын
The Fordomatic is not terrible for a daily driver. An adjustable vacuum modulator will give some adjustability for when it shifts. I think there might be shift kits available (?). The 260 won’t break that transmission if all is in good repair.
@TOBYH Жыл бұрын
MINE HAS THE 2 SPEED FORDOMATIC ALSO, HAD IT REBUILT 8 YRS AGO, STILL SHIFTS GREAT, I PUT B&M TRICK SHIFT AUTO TRANS FLUID IN IT. IT SHIFTS GREAT. @@IowaMercMan
