Love see falcons getting back on the road. I have a 63.5 falcon sprint with a 260 and 4sp that my grandfather bought new. It’s been restored from frame up. And I would love to see the old girl budget restored. I’ve been told that the later falcons were the predecessors to the mustang. Absolutely love what you guys do! Keep it up!

Gotta admit, a 302 would be smart, but what about a "big block" swap (300)? I know getting power out of them is slightly easier than getting blood from a stone, but I also know I'm a glutton for punishment, lol.

Love to see a 302 in the old Falcon. The '63 Falcon Sprint was available with a 260 in it. The 302 is from the same engine family. But the front subframe will need to be stiffened quite a bit to handle the extra ponies. After all the early Mustangs were just Falcons with sexy bodies on them.

It's been a must in the work truck for me for the past few years and I tend to enjoy working on Riggs a bit more than without the shade. Just a little protection can keep a guy working longer if he's not sweating as much as he would be in the sun getting heat exhaustion. If you want to do it cheap and easy, just 302 swap it. They had the 260 v8 in them from factory and it's about the only v8 engine that'll fit with headers being smaller than the 351, ls, or sbc
@KiwiStag749 ай бұрын
Great to see the old girl finally get home under her own power, guys. Repower? Me, I'd rather leave the beast with the straight six - it sounds bloody marvelous and certainly has proven itself as a strong unit. Needs a bit more paint to finish off the rebuild and make it run as good as it possibly ever could though 😂 Maybe if it's an especially thick coat (or maybe even using metallic paint), you'd end up with a big cam, headers, twin or triple carb setup and a few other enhancements! Here in New Zealand, the XL Falcon was a great little beast and very popular. Even today, most that have survived still run their inline six and three on the tree with most of the V8 swapping being done to the Fairlane 500 of the same era (if someone had bought it poverty spec or it had just a little V8 in it). V8-swapping the car will only make you want to give the Falcon a full-on interior makeover, fresh bodywork and shiny paint......and lower it, wide low-profile tyres on slots or Torq Thrusts, floor change conversion, bucket seats - and that's a whole heap of cash thrown at it. Again, if it were my build and wanting a cool original cruiser for little money, I'd be leaving the six in place, but giving it a few enhancements like headers and a decent carb / intake (and a cam when money allows), changing the Ford-O-Matic 2-speed auto for a C4 3-speed (or to a 3, 4 or 5 speed manual, but a column-change 3-speed would be easier to keep the car looking standard), then tidying up the interior with a good headliner and carpet (after laying down some sound-proofing on the ceiling, front and rear firewall and floorpan), cleaning up the seats and doing the Mexican blanket makeover if there were areas of untidiness in the vinyl and tidying up some door cards for the beast. The exterior would be given a decent waterblast, then a cut and polish over the entire surface to see what happens....making no difference to me whether the topcoat is thinner in places as long as it polishes up well to a satin / gloss shine - whisky dents included. All chrome and trim would also be polished up, with anything missing going back onto the car and the wheels would be painted silver or grey rather than black. Engine bay would be cleaned up and rattle-canned flat or satin black and the same in the trunk. The wheel wells and underside would be cleaned up and given a coating of black bed liner to protect it and provide further sound-deadening. Actually, maybe on reflection, the trunk floor / walls would be better hit with bedliner too. She's a lovely old car with excellent bones. A V8 swap would be great and a 302 (or 289, which is period correct for the car) is a wonderful sounding engine, but it would mean upgrades to other areas (brakes for starters) and make you wish you could spend more. Keeping her a six but with just a more highway-friendly gearbox and allowed to breathe easier, the car would perform and cruise better and leave you with cash to make it a quiet, comfy and enjoyable ride.

Ford sold these here in Australia. No v8 . The first ones were criticised for bad ball joints. Rough roads in Australia back then. They put fairlane ball joints in to solve the problem. They restyled them 3 times independent from the usa cars. The final version was the xp falcon that came in two and four door versions and a 200 six was offered.

FE engine transplant plus a higher top-speed gear ratio would be pretty neat i guess. Were these "Thunderbolt"- Merc Comets equivalents to Fairlanes or Falcons!?. But a healthy Ford smallblock would do the job quite as well, if not better and i guess would be more economical. Another option might be A 300 Inline 6, if it happens theres such one around by accident. Neat car nonetheless
