Hi Lou, I have had the privilege to know Grace, I was a little guy. I was born and raised right down Henry Ave. from her house. My sister went to school with her and I remember how nice she was. My first car was a Ford, my first new car was a T-Bird. Oh the coincidence of this video. Thank You Lou for bringing back long distant memories!!!

I'm a guy who has been a car nut for nearly seventy years. I like going back on this channel and re-viewing old videos like this one because I forget about these. This truly was the two-door Lincoln Continental; it seems hard to envision a car on only a 113" wheelbase weighing nearly 5000 pounds! These were supposed to have been hard on tires back then because of the massive weight--which of course contributed to its great stability as a land yacht. I always like the central a/c installation like the Rambler, and of course the Lincoln shared this since the cowl was shared between the two. Thanks so much for giving us years of pleasure! The only reason I don't subscribe is because I there are so many cars on here that I have no interest for, particularly cars with excessive and pointless horsepower. However, you attempt to give something for everyone and that's to be respected. Best wishes from Texas!

My Uncle owned a '63 Landau, Silver Mink in color with a black top and interior. He let me use it to take my drivers test when I turned 16. I thought it was the most beautiful car in the world and I went on to own 7 different bullet birds over the years. If someone were to offer me a free Thunderbird and I had to pick between this car or a Roadster I'd probably have a heat attack trying to decide which one I wanted. One other fact missed in this video is the wood grain in the Principality of Monaco edition was a darker rose wood grain. The standard Landau had a lighter Walnut grain. I'm surprised this didn't have an AM-FM radio as this was the first year that was offered. The windshield was so large that it was actually interchangeable with the Lincoln Continental. They were built on the same assembly line as the Lincoln. I never get tired of looking at them.
@emjayay

Oh, I didn't know any other models had wood veneer in the interior! The fake landau bars are unfortunate, as is the side sculpture that showed up in '63. I don't think the windshields interchange - the Lincoln one has a curve at the top of the edge that the Thunderbird does not have, and the Lincoln is wider. Also different cowl. Fun fact: the Thunderbird has old style symmetrical wipers, although they overlap. The Lincoln has parallel wipers - but they are backwards, like it was going to have right hand driver position. I think they just made a mistake.

Well done Lou, I stopped at this T-Bird 63 Landau and it is very beautiful. Congratulations to the owner. I bought a T-Bird 63 coatch from Vancouver. It was driven for 30 years and after was stored indoors with virtually no rust. I'm in the process of repairing it completely. I stripped it completely with sheet metal and repaired it with lead (1/2 bar of lead and very little putty) Now it is primed. She is going to 2-tone water-based paint in March. The interior is in very good condition. After painting it will receive dual eahaust, six pack carburetor and a Comp. torker cam shaft 1200-5200 rpm. Finally it will be next year available...! I am living in Quebec Canada.

My dad drove Thunderbirds most of his life. Started out with a 1956 Crown Victoria. From there the Thunderbird came into our family starting with a 1958, 1963, 1965 and a 1968. All of them were unique in their own way. Seeing this 1963 brought back fond memories. Really enjoyed watching this video.

When my dad turned 54, out went the Galaxies and in came the Thunderbirds, starting with the 1963, followed by a '65 and a '69. But dad wasn't finished. He also had a '65 Mustsng followed by a '68. He truly was a huge Ford fan... That "63 was our first Thunderbird and was always my favorite. Picked it up at Jessie E. Smith Ford in Glendale California on 12.24.1962. To this 10 year old, it was the BEST Christmas ever!

Rich L. Of '67-'69 model Thunderbird, my favorite was the 68. Our '69 had the 429 V-8. With 365 hp that baby could (excuse the pun) fly. My Dad kept the '68 Mustang til he passed away in February 1998. Both Mustangs ('65 and '68 were the GT models).

@@clarkgriswold5903 Well, I don't know what POM stands for but whatever on the inside to depict wood might not be real, we should keep in mind the only true wooden type cars were in the 30s 40s, and maybe early 50s. But let's all enjoy our classic cars no matter how they may come.

@@clarkgriswold5903 Ok, Clark, I've never had it ( The T Bird ) referred to as POM and sure the wood like material you are talking about runs across the dash and into the door panels much like a wrap around & I'm going to assume it's not real wood. My bird is an unrestored original in which the paint and interior are still in good condition the only work was redone was the front suspension also I still have the factory fender skirts. I've been offered all type of crazy money for it but it's not for sale, every now and then I do notice one for sale.

That rear light system is amazing at night . The red lens lights up from a simple bulb while that chrome ring increases the light from its reflection like a mirror, then those bars that flow in and up the center cylinder piece look like a jet engine Trubine blade system when the brake light comes on . It recessed so far that the light comes out to seem like a flame or burning fuel exhaust . The tip of that cylinder has an outter trim ring to isolate the red spot in the center. i had a 63 and that car had so much work for its design I kept finding little things that someone added to the car where the buyer might not see in the showroom before buying it. Take a look at the scan from the front to the rear and see how the trim piece and body bump change after the drivers door to morph the spade looking front to the torpido rear section where a fin grows out as the body drops away and then that chrome end cap that flows down to meet the Light Ring mounted on the bumper. The dash area uses the rear tube them for the 3 items and then the Knobs that sit on the torpido designed chrome piece for the wipers and lights plus the radio dials .

Beautiful car...... I have been a Bullet Bird fan since around 1975, when i was 14, bought my dream Bird in Oct 78, a neighbor had a beautiful 61 Convertible in Red, i asked him even when i was 14 that if he ever wanted to sell to please give me first dibs...He did just that , in Oct 78, I was 17. Still have the car today too, nearly 41 yrs later. These Monaco Editions were always fascinating to me. A good friend in Northern Ohio has Monaco #2, and #39. Both are unrestored, and rough too. I was told a few yrs ago that someone had done a thorough investigation into Car #1 and they had been told by a representative of the Grimaldi family that the car had been sold off many yrs ago. Either way, the car has never publicly surfaced. As much as i love the Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, this car needs the skirts back on it, and the dress up spinner wheelcovers, IMO. ;)

My father had purchased a 1963 Ford Galaxie four door in the color of burgundy with the 390 cubic inch engine and air conditioning and I remember going into the Ford dealership with him to fill out the order for the car and sitting in a Thunderbird much like this one , and then i could also buy all of the promotional models from Ford every year i also was into brochure collecting as a small boy .

Very nice car! From 63 thru 66, I think we're the best years of the Thunderbird. I personally feel that when Ford wanted to bring back a nostalgic designed Thunderbird in 2002, it should have been based on these years instead of the two seaters. One thing I noticed on some of these videos with the lights on the doors, is you always mention that they were there, so other drivers would see the door was open. This is partially true, but if you read the brochures, Ford always talked about them as a convenience and safety feature that was part of the lighting package. It was standard on the higher end luxury models and an option on some of the lower models. If you noticed there were two light lenses in the fixture, one red and one white. The red one was aimed straight out to show to traffic that the door was open, the white one was aimed downward to light up the ground so the persons getting out of the car could see what they were stepping on to. These lights were on the doors on both sides of the car. You haven't really noticed the effect of those lights because you are not recording these videos at night.

In the fall of 1962 my late uncle purchased a 1963 Ford Thunderbird convertible with black exterior, white drop top, and red interior. I was 14 years-old at the time and I loved that car, especially the interior. A thin hardbound book (white cover) came with the car that touted how well the engineering was, with photos showing various tests the car was put through, etc., and stated that the Thunderbird was Lincoln equipped (luxury).

I just passed by what I thought was a falcon for sale and turned around and it turned out to be one of these. I don't normally care for big American cars with V8's in them, especially automatics, but holy hell this thing is beautiful. It's all original, seats a bit cracked from age but still feel good, top is dried out but still there. Just, wow. Working electric seats, it all just was there. I'm entirely tempted to go back and buy it for as cheap as it was priced, though I have no space for it.

The absence of rear fender skirts also contribute to that look...Always loved the pricey Sports Roadster!

Hey Lou, What a TREAT! I did the inflation Calculator and in 1963 $5000 would be $41K today. This was a car so many Lusted after and this is a fully Optioned Model. Today for $41K think of a car you could buy that everyone would be Lusting Over? The Kia Stinger GT? It’s just money was a lot tighter back then with NO hand outs. You were lucky to buy a $500 used car. My dad always paid $70-$1500 for used cars up until 1978 when he bought his second NEW car a 1978 Subaru DL Coupe for $4800 Same price as this T-Bird only 15 years later. Crazy when you think about it.

I had no idea this special edition was ever built. A very neat car! I did know a guy who had one of these. His was bright red and featured an edition of the 390 that had three two barrel carburetors from the factory, which was an option for these cars. His was near mint, and he paid $800 for it in about 1970.

Loft the forward edge of lower seat cushion about middle of seating position on each side to get bottom seat frame released from retainer bracket. Pull seat forward and then remove from car. The back seat is held in by 4 screws. One each on bottom outboard screwed into the inside quarter/armrest panel and two more at bottom of seat back to either side of driveshaft hump. Now the back seat will slide down off the two metal retainers. Remove it from car. The seat upholstery is held by hog rings used in automotive and home upholstery. I recall the cover only having hog rings around the perimeter on that seat.

For people that don't smoke, those wind deflectors on the wing window are for those people that smoke and you can flick your cigs ashes out those windows with out losing the head, really things they had back then. spectacular. I have wanted one of these since I first found out about them a few years back...really special. I don't like white interiors in general, but this one is fabulous with the rosewood trim. I did a quick check on one of the famous online classic car sites, and there were 4 of these for sale, from about $10k to $30, from slightly rusty restorable to nearly as nice as this guy's...#48, #975, #1703, and one that didn't advertise the number. the slight rusty one is loaded with good options like Anthony's car here....the others more basic. re: 'they don't make cars like this anymore'...I think what's different about cars then, like this Bird, and cars today is that back then you would have been proud to drive this beautiful car, whereas today you could care less about the blobby appliance parked in the driveway. Thx Lou and Anthony!

Strangely enough the 63 was the only year that did not come with dual exhaust. (maybe the M-code 3-2bbl ones did though).

That's a gorgeous rare car, felt bad for poor Anthony when he had to do what most Ford owners had to do, hold the car up in park so it starts, it's a Ford problem w neutral safety switch, only for this car, ignition is on the left, I remember people wrapping their left arm around the wheel to hold the shifter in place, and turn the key w their right hand, don't worry, my sunroof rattles in my 73 Grand Prix, when open, it's mortifying, you have a Gorgeous car

My parent's lowly 1963 Falcon had the same problem as it got older. I guess the safety switch mechanism wears. Eventually you could start it by just turning the key to on and pushing up on the lever which would engage the starter!

A beautiful and classy T-Bird indeed! Sad though that the original steering wheel and dashboard are “cracked.” Also, two features that would’ve helped make the car more complete would be “fender skirts,” and a passenger-side “rear-view mirror.” The “knob” on the replacement steering wheel is really unnecessary too. They went out of style along with “curb feelers.”

Those aren't period correct Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, those are more modern reproductions. You can tell by the center spinners and number of wires. Also, those floor mats are not correct for a Bullet Bird. They are Square Bird items, you can tell by the bird design on them.
