Maybe, but GM Frigidaires had by far the most complicated mechanism ever put into any sort of automatic washer and could be a absolute pain to work on when something did go wrong. They were fairly reliable, but were a absolute nightmare when something did break. I think Maytags produced from 1966 to 2006 would be a design of the past you could bring back fairly easily, would probably cost about the same as a new Speed Queen but for sure be more reliable. No automatic washer made outside of a Maytag will ever be as reliable or dependable as a Maytag.

This was my mothers first automatic washer, she had always used a maytag wringer before this. It was a fantastic washer, they got the clothes very clean.

For some reason the design of the control panel reminds me of the control panel of the 70's maytags with the exception of the dial on the left of the panel.

Amazing drain suction performance, evacuates the washtub in seconds!!

Beats me. I acquired the unit at the ripe old age of 44 (2007). I have read that the original 3 ring pulsator columns for 63/64 were prone to breaking and that this current agitator (p/n 9956770) was the replacement. It's amazing that this overly complicated design (engineers dream, repairmens nightmare) still functions 100%, even with belts that appear to be several decades old.

@brthdan I replaced the original 3 ring pulsator with a Jet Cone because the original tied long-sleeved dress shirts in knots no matter how I loaded them. The Jet Cone's four little windows near the top slowed down the turnover a bit-it was a little too much of a good thing-and I no longer had to untie shirts. This was on a 1962 or 3 machine I bought new. The washer was running perfectly in 1980 when I gave it to Good Will. Wish I still had it!

What happened to the original 3 ring pulsator? The one you have is the Jet Cone pulsator and that was not introduced until the end of 1964. As a matter of fact my fold out brochure for the 1964 Frigidaire Laundry Line show the 3 ring pulsator as well....hmmmm interesting why was your washers original pulsator replaced?????

Sounds like your washer was an early Roller-matic. This washer utilizes the earlier Multi-matic design.

I've heard about the Multi-Matic drive. But i've never seen one in action. Are there any videos on youtube of that drive system? Ive seen the Roller-Matic, the 1-18 belt drive roller-matic and the unimatic. I would like to see the multi-matic in action.

Hollycare: I think the Pulsators we're difficult to manufacture and repair, that might be why they discontinued them.

LOL! The THUNK it makes at the end of the spin cycles.
@MyDan5814 жыл бұрын
it just goes to show you these new machines with this "DUAL" action agitators suck, and the straight vane agitators are ok, but if the tub turns while its washing forget it, the clothes just "sail" away on the top, and might make it to the bottom once during a cycle, the back & forth motion also has to create a hardship on the trans. & motor to move all that weight, where as up & down motion shouldnt, bring this back!
