I like what you're doing...I don't mind the 4 to 2 door conversion on these...it's better to cut a sedan than a valuable ragtop if you're not going to do a legit rag 3 low low...next time definitely brace before you cut the top off.

I hope it comes out better than it sounds. If i could do the work I’d make myself a 2 door vert 80s landau and that’s just cutting the top offf I just wouldn’t trust myself cutting my own fingernails. Good luck brother

I just got a 62 4 door Impala in bundle deal at a Real Estate Auction along with a 53 Chevy Fleetline and a 66 Plymouth Fury (the 2 cars I was actually after but had to buy all 3, it was an all or nothing sale) and it's TRASHED, The floor from about middle of the back seat back is garbage so I'm thinking about building a "What If" El Camino, I have to replace it all anyway, might as well make it cool

gutting the body first and adding the convertible rocker bracing and the extra body mounts first is key.imo

before cutting the top you were supposed to weld in metal braces inside then cut the top then after making the proper reinforcements cut the bracing out

i wonder if the battery weight is contributing to the gaps..ive seen rear quarters buckle on hoppers and cars w/ alot of batterys..alot of people will fiberglass the rear quarters.

Before cutting top off, should have braced the inside, then do the repairs/add the support needed, then remove the bracing

Find a 63 GM convertible tub and really do it… you can use any convertible bucket from a full size chevy, buick, Oldsmobile Cadillac etc… 💯

How much does it cost to do a project like this?

It kind of depends on how mint you want it to be when you're done. You can buy used parts and hydro setup or go all new. A new 3 pump setup and batteries could run ya about 5k depending on where you buy. Install could cost a bit if you don't know how to do it yourself. Then getting into chopping up the body, doing body work, priming, painting, interior, suspension and frame reinforcement etc... lots of labour! You could burn through 10k real fast. On the real cheap end and having friends to help, you might be able to do a full build for 10-15k if you're lucky. Metal and paint supplies ain't cheap. If you want something like in a rap video or on insta, you could easily spend 100k and up, no sweat. Hope this helps. So far, I think we are getting close to that 10k mark with lots more work to go.

Yeah see I don’t mind cutting the roof and converting a 4 door sedan like this one into a coupe or rag, however I wouldn’t do any of this to a 4 door hardtop, the no B post pillar cars. I know it’s still a 4 door but that body style is actually more rare than coupes and just as rare as verts. From a distance 4D hard tops look like coupes, those get a pass IMO
