I remember this world series 3 days off of school games 3-4 & 5 get to watch the games on tv. Wrong weak tv reception you needed a snow shovel to watched the game. So you had to rely on the old radio to enjoy the game. This is why us old farts love these games. Thanks a million Classic baseball on the radio, and what great name for a great site.

Yes, you let your imagination "paint" the picture -- easier when you had a great announcer like Caray who described things so well. No 4-hour+ games, no pitch counts, no DHs, no 10-min. AB's where the goal seemed to be "how many consecutive foul-offs" can a batter get? Just solid baseball !

Curt Gowdy & Harry Caray on NBC Radio.

Harry Caray had to be a little restrained in his enthusiasm for the Cardinals since he was doing a national broadcast, but the 10th inning should give younger fans an idea of why he was considered a great broadcaster before he ever became a "colorful character" in Chicago.

Most picked the Yankees as favorites to win this series. The truth is though that by 1964, St. Louis had the better team.

Robert Kresko I disagree with you that “St. Louis had the better team.” If Whitey Ford had been healthy and able to pitch games 1,4, and 7, (all Yankee losses), the chances are pretty good that Ford and the Yankees would have prevailed in at least 1 of those games. You’re going to tell me that Whitey Ford would go 0-3 after having gone 0-2 in the 63 Series? Not likely. He was too good a pitcher to go 0-5 in the World Series. I say: if Whitey Ford is healthy, Yankees would have won the 64 Series. Instead, Cardinals barely squeaked by. Were the Cardinals “better?” Yes, only if the Yankees didn’t have their Hall of Fame pitcher and ace of the staff healthy and ready to pitch. Luckily for St. Louis, he got hurt, and that was the Series.

@@frederickrapp5396 If you read the "October 1964" book, you'll get the feeling that while both of these teams were great, the Yanks were aging and didn't have the hustle that the younger Cards had on defense. The Yanks seemed to play for the big innings, and relied on POWER. The Cards, while not yet featuring the "scratch & claw" rallies of '67-68 and during the "Whiteyball" era, certainly relied more on speed & defense in '64.
