1964 Chevrolet Malibu SS | The First Chevelle.

In this episode we spend an afternoon with Gary Craven, who ran across a "50 footer" 1964 Malibu SS when looking for a Nova. He spent a good chunk of change and many nights and weekends getting the old Chevelle back on the road and standing proud. It features a stout 383 small block, a TH350 transmission with a Gear Vendors overdrive, and a Quick Performance built 9 inch rear end.
We also delve a bit into the history of how the Chevelle and its GM intermediate siblings (Old F85, Buick Special, Pontiac Tempest) came into being.

I have a 64 Malibu ss too. Had a 65 Malibu ss back in the 60s and early 70s built my 64 as a clone of my 65 but lightened the body during the build and did a 406 smallblock and m22 Muncie 410 gears in a ford 9 inch with a locker.it runs in the 10s easy. Love your hugger orange chevelle.

i have a 65 el camino & at one time had the 65 malibu i also don't like the top chrome on the 64 malibu either & i also don't like the 65 dash i changed it with a 64 i am 58 years old & i enjoyed your video.

The SAD thing about hot rodding is.....that most people cant afford to own these machines until they are old....and fat af. Imagine if he had this car in his prime..

In his youth , these cars were cheap and plentiful. They only started to become expensive in the later 90’s. Heck when I was a kid in the late 80’s we weren’t well off and we had a 65 El Camino, a 68 Camaro, a 71 Vega, and a 67 Le Mans in the family.
