That's a great sounding Texan. I have a '64 in sunburst. Also a great guitar. They don't all sound that good, but when you find a good one.....Oh My! The long scale gives them a bit different timbre and a bit more power than the J-45s and J-50s of that period.

I agree with Mark Thompsons comment ☆☆☆☆☆ Its funny when the texan is mentioned . Pauls always comes to mind. But...another texan comes to mine, and its that of frampton cones alive fame, different year tho. I seem to notice the bass strings on this example doesnt have the boomy bass sttings of pauls and peters

Nice playing! First time I saw "Yesterday" played flat-pick style, (usually 2-finger style). You also did it tuned "concert pitched", not drop "D", which "Sir Paul" often does with his Texan so he could thumb the bass strings easier. But, I often do concert pitch for that song for the lack of another guitar at the moment for the drop tuning. Great guitar you show cased! I didn't know about the adjustable ceramic saddle. Interesting. Note: The longer headstock allows the A & G strings to be straighter going to the tuning pegs which means less likely to go out of tune compared to their Gibson counterparts.
@jeffkahl4 жыл бұрын
Actually, Paul is tuned a full step down as opposed to dropped D.

I'm told by a few people mine is a 64 Texan, but still trying to verify the year. I have a lot of conflicting information to identify the year. It still has the plastic adjustable bridge that Gibson used for a couple of years in the early 60's (I'm told possibly 62 - 63?). But the SN is six digits (214xxx) which one site says were used in 67-68 (I think that is incorrect). The tuner knobs are white which another site stated were only used through 66. I really think the plastic Bridge is the tell, anyone know if they were used in early 64? I've seen photos of other supposedly 64s online, one with a SN before and another after mine, but both had the Rosewood bridges (which may have been replaced). Thanks

Astute observation. I've been playing a '63 Epiphone Texan for - well, all my life, really, my father bought it new when I was 4 yrs. old, and I turn 60 this year, and it's the only guitar I've ever played. I've always noticed that gap. It is weird, but is part of the Magic of that Guitar. I think it's The Best Acoustic Guitar. I put my fist right through the back of mine, in a blind fit of rage, then threw it across the room where it crashed into a corner and sat there, all smashed. I thought it was finished. Like I'd killed my best friend. Well, I picked it up, removed and set aside the pieces of wood - including the label on the inside - and gave it a strum. It STILL sounds Great! I love my Guitar.

Epiphone is still putting out quality gear. I own a 2014 Casino and a 2015 Sheraton II. After being setup correctly and with a few basic upgrades, they sound and play great. More times than not I'm reaching for the Sheraton over my Gibson 64' 335 and 66' 345. Don't get me wrong here, my 335 and 345 are my babies as well. :)
@crimsondragonfly51274 жыл бұрын
I had an Epiphone early 70s vintage. It fell apart in less than a year, the neck just came out of the guitar, unrepairable. The guitar was not abused. I give all of my guitars nothing but love. Never bought another one.People run down Gibson, but I have not had an issue with any of the Gibsons I've owned, five of them, just sayin. I'm thinking it was probably a one off thing, but it did spoil my taste for the brand.

didnt Kurt Cobain have one of these with the nixon now sticker on it?
@shakeyperspective39818 жыл бұрын
Yep, Kurt's was a 61'. Earnie Bailey (Kurt's tech) installed a Bartolini 3 AV pickup in it as well. Kurt preferred the Texan over his 53' D-18* *Not to be confused with his late 58' D-18e that he used during the infamous Unplugged recording. Hope this helps. Cheers
