It's a three-year-old video showing the manufacturing process of a guitar. Those who are commenting that they want to get involved in the current world situation should be ashamed of their misguided sensibilities, this is not a video made for that purpose, it's fun to watch as a guitarist , It is also a valuable resource. I've always loved Epiphone and watching this video made me very sentimental for my Epiphones, now getting to see where they were "born" :) I'm the proud owner of a 2016 Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul Blue Royale Standard (part of their Ltd.Ed. "Blue Royale" series), made in a beautiful Chicago Blue Pearl color finish w/ "Royale" style Silver Sparkle binding. My dad got it as a surprise for my birthday in 2016, saying "I know you're mainly a Strat guy, but I think you'll like this..." and he was absolutely right! This guitar is beyond incredible. It feels and plays great, tuning and intonation are rock solid. I kept the neck pickup (interestingly, it's labeled "DOT" on the back which makes me wonder if they used a humbucker meant for the Dot semi-hollowbody on these Les Pauls), and I installed an official EVH Frankenstein humbucker in the bridge . I gotta say the LP gtr + EVH pickup combo turned it into a MONSTER and it's now become my main "Rock" guitar for recording and performance. I hear what the critics of Chinese-made Epiphone in the comments are saying, but with all respect it's very much a subjective opinion. One person's garbage guitar is another person's cherished "number one" that is a literal extension of their creativity. These Epiphones are probably not as good as your precious 'MURICA-made Gibsons, but I think it's more about what the player creates with the guitar & how they customize it to their needs/styles than what country it came from - it's an understatement to say that when it comes to the electric guitar, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, haha.

I own two Epiphone Les Paul's and though I really love these guitars, I did notice something in this video that explains why I have some slight damage on the fretboard near the 17th fret of the first one I bought. If you watch the person doing the neck fitting (5:10) they clamp the neck with a C-Clamp and do not protect the fretboard from the clamp. If you look close you can even see the scratches she puts on the fretboard from clamping it down. If you watch the "Gibson Factory Tour 2019" you can see how well they protect the fretboard from the clamp. Dont get me wrong, I love my guitar and wouldn't part with it for the world. I'm sure there are rigorous QC measures these guitars go through. This is just something that's being overlooked. Unfortunately it's a big oversight IMO. Maybe if someone from Epiphone reads this they can have them change that part of the process. All it would take is a padded block of wood between the clamp and the fretboard.

I think we can agree that an Epiphone doesn't have the same quality as a Gibson, I mean here the finish and electronics. We can't expect the same quality for a thing that costs 1/4 of the other. The big differences you have between these two: 1) the body that is made of several pieces of wood and than hidden with a thin veneer 2) the paint over the binding on the top of the guitar body (not scrapped) 3) the poly finish 4) the electronics 5) the headstock.

You're kidding, right? There was one of the rooms with standing water on the floor and the shop forman was talking about how they used to take the guitars outside? Anyone who can't tell the difference between one of these guitars v an American Gibby aren't actual players. There is no comparison. The thick poly finish is there for a reason. It covers up the construction flaws, and there are many. These might be ok for a fresh newbs first electric, but everything about these is budget, including the setup and electronics. Once you fix the flaws, you've got a crappy playing Chinese guitar that cost you and extra $350 to have the pickups and hardware upgraded. There is no shortcut to a good guitar. It doesn't need to be made in America, but this factory isn't very good.

It's funny how many negative comments you can read here. What are you expecting of a Epiphone that costs 1/4 of a Gibson? Same quality, same finish? That's what you get for that price. If you aren't happy, buy one Gibson. If you have one Gibson, respect those who can't afford one Gibson.
@JoshuaC9234 жыл бұрын
Funny thing is Gibson is also well known for their 'quality' work haha
@austntexan4 жыл бұрын
Nearly everyone can afford a Gibby. The student level guitars Gibson makes are really nice. People that know guitars can tell the difference. It usually amounts to saving for an extra couple of weeks to buy a decent instrument. The savings, in the balance, isn't enough to justify the poor quality and terrible finish. All that beautiful wood just drenched in a thick poly finish. Cordova guitars is another great example of this. Decent guitars, but about the same cost as a Takamine, Alvarez or Taylor? If you look at the finish, it's godawful. . . and yet the price is the same as a well made instrument. This isn't real value. A few of their 335 style guitars are good, I'll allow that, but their solid bodies aren't worth it considering what else is on the market right now, and the fact that you can pick up studios on Reverb all day well under a grand. Korean made PRS are basically American quality Gibsons at this point, Chinese stuff can't even compare. At this point, it's just ignorance, buying one of these. It should go without saying that Gibbys coming from Japan are heads and shoulders above these things, and for just a little bit more.
@martinmcfly27704 жыл бұрын
@@austntexan You are so wrong buddy, only people from countries with good economy can afford your "Gibby". Generally Gibson's prices are adjusted for Americans and their economy. You are exactly right. For all the people who say “Chibsons are firewood! Save your money and buy an Epiphone!”, you need to wake up. Take a good look at the neck joints in the video (when they’re not trying to hide them). You’ll see that Epi’s have a chunk of wood driven in the side of the pocket.

With so much of a guitar made by automated processes, would you even be able to tell where it was made if it wasn't labeled "Made in China" or the serial number didn't give it away? I have 2 Chinese made guitars (that I did not have to pay a ridiculous "made in America" price for) and both are good quality and worth more than the price I paid. But I'm sure some people won't want anything to do with them because it may imply they aren't rich enough to buy an American made one. I see that even the Joe Bonamassa model is made in China.
My luthier with over 20 years experience prefers Epiphone over Gibson. He says, the big difference in price does not translate to a big difference in craftsmanship and sound. Also, Epiphone has less QC issues he says. But, of course the choice is personal. If you must have a Gibson and nothing else is going to satisfy you, then by all means get a Gibson.
@mf8236Ай бұрын
The brand cult is real and there's a lot of people in the first world who are willing to pay for a “brand experience” and don't care if there is another product with exactly the same specs that is ten times cheaper. The ridiculous thing is that these people stubbornly claim that the instruments have a different “mojo” or whatever to justify buying overpriced branded products, instead of admitting to themselves that they are falling for marketing strategies like foolish sheep. But obviously they aren't even aware of this, because otherwise it wouldn't work. But it's okay, there'll always be people who think they can compensate for non-existent skill with a $4000 Gibson to finally get "that sound". And they will never come to understand that guitars sound good first and foremost when they are played by good musicians and that headstock text really doesn't mean shit.
@ChristopherTracyparade4 күн бұрын
Your luthier is right. I own three Gibsons and an inspired by Gibson epiphone Les Paul Jr. my epiphone is more comfortable to play than my es 335 and SG, and sounds almost as good as them. I only continue to buy Gibson because they retain value at resell.
@ChristopherTracyparade4 күн бұрын
@@mf8236”mojo” is boomer bullshit in the same realm as astrology
@mf82364 күн бұрын
@@ChristopherTracyparade That's a strange argument. It's pretty easy to get rid of Epiphones on the 2nd hand market at a reasonable price. If you paid $400 for a guitar and sell it for $300 after a few years, that doesn't really hurt. And it's about the same kind of price depreciation you'll see on a Gibson, not in % but in $. An here we're talking about the trivial standard models (black LP standard etc.). High-end models like "Inspired by Gibson" etc. actually tend to see a value increase over time. I got a Casino "Inspired by John Lennon" in 2012 for about $800 and today you won't find a 2nd hand offer anywhere below 1200$, as it's an insanely good guitar.

If you know how to play these are fine guitars. The inconsistencies I have found in 3 tributes are slight neck profile diffrences, weight diffrences, and huge tone diffrences. Each with the same exact specs. (57 gibson pickups)-Out of my 3 one is an absolute GEM in tone, and it happens to be the heaviest in weight. I think the hand work comes through more. I gig with this one and I get compliments. And yes Ive had many Gibsons in my life. 2 standards, 2 Explorers and a 1983 custom shop ordered black beauty. The 1960 tribute SMOKES the standards, but the black beauty (shawbuckers) eeks out the tribute but barely. I think epiphones are fine instruments and I think people get hung up on the idea that if they have a gibson it "proves they can play". Sometimes an instrument can be overbuilt to the point of building the soul out of it.

@@jesterjigs9914do you honestly think that Gibson employees earn an “honest wage”? I’ll bet that you’d be disappointed to find out that they don’t. They’re factory workers. I don't understand the " Cheap " comments. There are plenty of comparison video's of "Chibson's" vs Gibson and the only quality issues are usually just the parts installed. Swap those cheap parts out for better and you have an awesome guitar for less. Do I care if it's from China? NO WAY! Maybe if Gibson wasn't so greedy they wouldn't have to worry lol.

I bought a chibson just to see what they made and I received a guitar with a repair fretboard (by the way with a different piece of wood with a different color/grain and the repair was made only on one case/fret, a real joke!!) and the worst was the wood that was not dry and it finish with a big crack on it, enough to put a finger in it... No seriously those guitars are garbage! I don't speak about chinese Epi, it's very good guitars but the other "makers" who make chibson and just try to fool people for 300$...

Most of the new Epi’s from China are not nice. Go to you local box store and grab it off the wall. Each guitar has a notice weight difference, some weight is above the knobs some are really hollow feeling. Sit down and inspect the fret work/binding/tuning machines/nut/bridge. Frets and nut work are terrible, move in to finish and notice cracks near headstock, indents on fingerboard other small blemishes that shouldn’t of got passed someone. Move on to playing if you’re still interested. Don’t plug it in tune it up and give it a few chords. First you’ll notice action and intonation isn’t great like they used to be in the days of old. And the thing sounds meh. No resonance, no life to it. I’ve played 5 Chinese les Paul’s in the store. I’m not impressed. My 2005 Korean Epi is hands down a better player. I’ll never own a Chinese version especially after seeing this video. No care and no pride they just assemble.

@@vincenzolatona5263 I actually don't agree with that. I have a couple of newer Epiphones and have found them to be solid guitars for the price. Fit and finish generally good and there are things that often need to be done (setup, fret dressing/leveling, etc.) but I've generally been pleased (I'm talking about the mid-to-upper priced Epi's not the sub-$300 models).

@@AV-cx7ob I have a cheap as shit Epi Les Paul special, like 1 tone 1 volume version. It played quite bad, I put thinner strings on it and that helped, I got a Les Paul muse from them around £430 for a project n was so impressed felt so much better, chords rang out better I was buzzing, sounded amazing even with stock strings but still played the special still cause I wasn't scared of hurting its beautiful finish like the other. Anyway, I decide I'm gunna learn how to properly set a guitar up and use my special to do, all I had to do was raise the bridge to get the action a bit higher and every problem I'd had with buzzing, chords not sounding nice/ ringing out other intonation problems n shit was just gone, it's like a new guitar man. I think people just don't know how to set them up correctly and assume the product is bad.

What a great vid. Thanks for posting!!! First thing i appreciated is how clean these factories are. I've bought 3 Epi's ove the years,,,a G400 in '96 MIK that was cool but needed a partial fret mill and complete dress to correct a low fret (11th i think). Shop split the cost. Played great and even smelled good but had some dead spots for single notes. This wasn't the neck. I could feel the body 'rejecting' these notes. I didn't keep it more than a few years. In '07 i Bought a Les Paul Std + also MIK. Its been great. In '12 i bought another G400, this time MIC. Its been great!! Necks chunky after the 10th fret or so but the actions low so alls well. There was a time this got played the most of the 12 guitars i have. I should fire it up!! btw, i teared up seeing that LP neck and body get glued together. I really need to play more (move screwed me over).
