The way it shifts into high speed spin so quickly with a full tub of water is pretty darn impressive!

In Australia we had a couple of versions of these, my nan had the "Frigidaire Custom Imperial" version made by GM Holden in Melbourne, the agitator was exactly the same as the one in this vid and I spent hours watching the wash action as a kid, my Grandfather purchased the machine new in 1968 and it lasted until 2001 when the drain hose failed, the mechanic told my grandfather it couldn't be fixed! My grandfather put it out in the hard waste curbside collection and didn't tell me, it was snatched up within 5 minutes he told me, I could have fixed it, just needed a new hose, I was heartbroken 😢, today these machines are next to impossible to find in Australia, If I ever find one no price it to high! hehe

One of my favorite features on these work horses is the timer advancing. That clicking is music to my ears.

Watching it ... just wonderful ! The look, the sounds ... Another vintage product with all the inimitable charm of its era

My mom had the model with the 2 banks of cycle and option buttons instead of knobs (Custom Imperial), and that 1140 RPM spin left some items so nearly dry, you wondered if they were tossed in dry at the end of the cycle.

This is when General Motors owned Frigidaire. they were the best there was nothing that compared growing up as a little kid I don't know why I was fascinated with appliances and we had all frigid air appliances in our home. I can remember in 1965 my father bought my mother a double oven frigidaire and it was $1,000. imagine what that would cost today. Now Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux

If this washer had an internal heater it would of blown the competition away.

They were great machines, mom had a 1971 model WIAS. The gas dryer igniter kept needing replacing. Got a Maytag Dependable Care model in 1987.

What is the knob on the lower right of the Control Panel? Is it possibly for water level? Love watching this machine in action, thank you!

General Motor's "Frigidaire" (they say the brand's name was coined by William C. Durant himself) ... Aaah ! 1950s et 1960s american products as we liked them, even here in France ! (with Formica furniture, an other icon of these two decades, here) ... and : American made, not in "China", like most of today's horrible, ugly crappy stuff ! Such a shame they don't make 'em washers like that any more !!! (but it's true that - even though the brand "Frigidaire" still exists - it's not owned by General Motors anymore; and this, since years ...)

Was that Maytag running too?
@666rtard7 жыл бұрын
Holy fuck, my family had the same exact maytag washer as the one right next to the washer being used in the video. It was even the same color. What year is that one from?
@retro-lady7 жыл бұрын
Hitler's Pussy The maytag next to the frigidaire is known as a CENTER-DIAL maytag. That particular style was made from like 1966 until 1980 with little changes to the lower half of the control panel (metallic blue or gold), the timer knob (metal or clear plastic), and timer dial (white with blue lettering or aluminum with brown & orange lettering) If the control panel lit up and had the round dial in the middle, you guys had a maytag 806 washer.
