Im not a motorcycle guy at all. But scramblers, I think, are the coolest genre of motorcycles.

I'm blown away by this story. I just inherited a complete single owner '62 Scrambler from my late uncle from southern CA.(A co founder of the old Sled Riders motorcycle club from the '70s). Even more crazy... I grew up and lived in Mt. shasta CA until a few years ago. Anyways, wonderful video and I'm looking even more forward to getting this bike back on the trails.

WOW! My dad had a 1964 CL72 just like yours, he ride in Baja too! I learned how to ride on that same bike! I have a Honda Africa Twin today, which reminds me of the days riding with my dad on his scrambler

I used to own a '68 scrambler like this one, my mother let me buy it with my mowing money when I was 12 yrs old, it was really too big a big for a 12 yr old but it was cheap and what I could afford , I believe I paid $120.00 for it. I lived in rural Fla. and used to run the sandy roads thru the orange groves. The bike had been stripped of its street lights and the baffles where also removed from the exhaust. I loved the raw power and low end torque, great twin engine sound it had. This video really brings back those memories so well! Thank -You!

WOW the bike of my youth! I could only ride my friends Hondas growing up. No money for me. They went from the 50,90,125, then the 305s. But he 250 Scrambler was the one that I still love. That run to LaPaz would be my ultimate fantasy. Now that I'm 73 maybe I'll start looking for one .

You got me by 2 years, I had a 250 in 1969 when I was in Cuba with the military. Several of us rode it as regular enlisted didn’t have the ability to bring it back to USA so it stayed in Cuba. I wondered how long it made it after all these years. I’ve been looking for one too, hard to find and a hefty price tag comes with it .Good luck. !

Thanks, I really enjoyed that. I love the sound of these early Honda parallel twins. They seemed so big and powerful when I was 8 years old. They’re still cool.

My first “BIG bike” was a CL72 I purchased in Hilo Hawaii from Greg Herbst who was in college at Cal Poly from 66-69; he brought it home and sold it to me; I had a first bike, an S90, from 66-69, I was 18 and headed to college on Oahu. I think about that orange 250 a lot. Wish I had kept it, but my GF got tired of riding two up in Honolulu, so I sold it and bought my first car, a 61 bug for $300; loved that bug too….

The Honda Scrambler and Super Hawk were two bikes that grabbed me just before I was old enough to drive. I ended up with 4 Honda's before owning a car. But sadly for me no 250 or 305. I still ride and feel just as emotional about my 2003 BMW Boxer Cup R1100s ( a real one, not the Randy Mamola "Replica" model). In between I rode a Norton Commando for many years. Riding any bike is one of life's great pleasures -- but riding a bike with soul is hard to beat.

My first bike....in 1966. I Never admit this because maybe four months later I saw a 250 Ducati Scrambler. I had to have it. "The engine looks like the brain....the bevel drive shaft is the brain stem...." Said I as I took a long hit. I put the Honda engine in a Exterminator go kart. Very rare monocoque kart, very light.

I had one of those in 1965 it was a 250cc. Mine had 12" riser handle bars and a cheater sprocket. Had it from 1965 had it shipped to me when I was stationed in CA in 1966 and then back again to Indiana. Sold it in 1968 had a wreck on it in 1965 not pretty but I fixed it got side swiped going 55 from behind did not have another one for quite awhile after those two incidents. The next one a 450 scrambler got sideswiped again in town by a guy or someone who did not stop and traded that off, that thing was fast though like to idiot I was I had that one up to 110 once. Fast forward 30 years another 450 scrambler got it for what a friend owed me, fell once and going about 5mph on loose gravel no damage but when it didn't start I sold it that has ended my motorcycle days forever.No one escapes mishaps on a motorcycle.

Strange that they considered La Paz the end of Baja when there is still another 150klm south to Cabo....That Camino del este is actually a really beautiful dirt road to ride.

Personally, it looks like it's had a bit if a hard life, and if she were mine she definately wouldn't be going through water, and used in dusty conditions. This bike needs a thorough Nut and Bolt restoration, but a proper restoration on a small bike like this- on top of the purchase price would be false economy. Nicest part of the CL72 are the straight pipes!
@Haresarefast
@Haresarefast 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, it's nice that it has the signs of heavy use. Personally I'd never buy a restored bike because they're rarely done properly and even on the rare occasion they are done well, they're too nice to actually use. I'd much rather have a bike showing its age than a fully restored bike

Anyone here after Jalopnik trashing this channel today? Their new agenda is throwing actual content creators under the bus while they hawk affiliate garbage and tell you who you're allowed to listen to. Didn't expect today to be the day I'm officially finished with Jalopnik, but I'm done. Keep up the great work. 👍
