I'm really enjoying watching you work on this car. I used to have a 63 T-Bird with the same engine, so a lot of things are the same. What a great car, it really deserves to be restored.

I'm picking up a 1964 Mercury Montclair Breezeway this week. It hasnt been on the road since 1987, but it's fair and decent. Your videos are helping me understand the car better. Yours isnt the same model but its very similar.

This car has rear power windows! Its more high tech than most cars today.
@LarryDeSilva648 жыл бұрын
seems like the rings have seated pretty well so you have no smoking issues and no blow by which is great. Electrical problems are all easily diagnosed by checking for power at the fuse. you got the opera lights to work dome light and cool that you got that back window to operate too. but yeah dirty switches, burned bulbs pretty much all the standard trouble shooting stuff bad grounds etc. But hey you found everything and got pretty much everything to work you are doing great!

Hi I've got a 54' Packard Patrician with two fuses: a screw driver blade and a drill bit! Nothing seems to run to a fuse box of any kind...no relays nothing. Yet car has electrohydraulic windows, power front seat and a rudimentary aircon all 6 volt. Any ideas? Cheers Nick Ask the man who owns one.
@LarryDeSilva648 жыл бұрын
well in 1954 it would have been 6 volt I have seen a couple of those packards around here and a 55 and a 56 Caribean. Yeah Packards were kind of funny in their placement of fuse panels.That 54 is a rare one alright produced the year before Studebaker took over Packard. Does yours have the copper colored 359 cubic inch engine? I will check some of my old manuals to see if i can find an answer to your fuse panel question.

Recall a few videos back you were emptying the glove box and there was a small chrome end knob (looks like a dash knob but smaller)? I believe it goes on the center position of the seat controls. I had a 1960 Monterey 2 door. Beautiful.

realize this may not be on topic,but the caddy transmission issue,have you checked out hiram guiterez channel-automatic transmissions.he was rebuilding a caddy transmission at one time.i believe it was a jet away.those were unique because if i recall they had both a front pump and a rear pump.its been a long time for me since finishing auto tec in 75,but hey.he is located in texas.so might work out.had a 64 breezeway-390 great car,loved that rear window.that middle button on the seat is for front/rear tilt.will have to take switch apart and use test power to each point to see if it works.healthy holiday,brian

I mde the comment 3 months ago that I was getting a 64 Mercury also. Well ive had it about three months now and its close to being on the road. It needs new wheel cylinders, a radiator, and an alternator. Shes almost ready to be driven!

I had a 1969 Mercury Monterey my aunt and uncle gave me, but my neighbor turned me on to these 1964 Mercury Montereys, where the back window goes up and down, (behind the back seat) ... like an old school wagon (station wagon) ... that is cool, but my 1969 Mercury Monterey had a 390 C.I. V-8 with a 4 barrel carburator ... Not good on gas!

Well, with gloss black rather than flat. Also, of course it should have the chrome there anyways

Yah, unfortunately someone has broken that seat switch... the middle hole on the face of the switch should have a joystick (of sorts) Don't remember what it controls but it's definitely broken off. The GOOD part is that it looks like you could unscrew the retaining ring and PERHAPS make a replacement. I would imagine a ball bearing might be found that fits the socket the joystick went into... I'm sure you could take it from there. Ah reached that part of the repair... I wouldn't be surprised if it wouldn't all work fine if you got in and cleaned what ever is making noise when you move the switches that do nothing.

My caddy was the same way. Seller said a bunch of stuff was broken but most of it just needed clean up to start working. Now if only I could get the opera lights to work! Also, I wanted to know if you have any tips for cleaning old cars. Being a Cadillac, my car has carpet EVERYWHERE and is soiled from years of build up. So far I've had some luck with spray foam shampoo, brush and microfibre. I've been able to get the dark discolouration out, but the doors and seats are still dirty. Is a professional hot water extraction my only option now? Thanks!

Maybe try taking the carpet out, power washing it, and then using some carpet dye to freshen it up. Might not work 100% but it shouldn't cost you more than $30

You are always going to have exhaust leaks with the fe. It helps immensely if you went true duals, and the BEST exhaust gaskets ever.

That’s an old zippo. I collect them. If you don’t want it, I do.
@dmanww8 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that Zippo and based on the video it looks like a Zippo Slim from 1964. Great accessory for that car. Here is the Zippo site with the year codes. It looks like it has one dot to the left of the logo. www.zippo.com/about/article.aspx?id=1582

Wow! It amazes me how something once top of the line, can end up in such bad shape. I've been watching your videos for quite sometime, and have learned a lot. Thank you for that! BTW; as a Zippo user/ lover, I can assure you that your Zippo still works and just needs lighter fluid (available most anywhere.) I can also tell you, based on the logo and dots yours dates to the mid 60s. (here's a list of Zippo date codes: www.zippo.com/about/article.aspx?id=1582 ) Even if you don't smoke Zippos are great, I use mine for the BBQ, candles, oil lamps, model steam engines, etc. Another plus is the warranty! (this vid explains it all... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZLPiJeFaq2Im8k ) Sorry for this being a pro Zippo comment, but I wanted to let you know that it's not broken and is a collectors item. Ps. I'm glad to see those god awful rims gone off the Merc! And the proper hubcaps and whitewalls are gorgeous! Also, where can I get one of those electrical testers? Very cool. Again, Sorry for the long comment, but I wanted to let you know. Keep up the good work!

Actually yeah rescind my statement about the former owner liking the thing then if its in this bad a shape lol and I see what you mean about the color. although to be fair my home was once in that same shade of color, and switching it to something else was the best thing I ever did lol as that color looks ugly when it gets worn down like that.
