Back in 64, my neighbor who was a FOMOCO mgmt employee (and got a good discount) ordered a brand new Parklane convertible with every option you can think of on it. So gorgeous. Basically it's an even more gussied-up version of the Galaxie 500XL. Couple years later I bought a Galaxie XL convert with everything for myself. Loved those cars. (and this one!!)

I worked with a guy who loved these cars. He had a black 65 with white bucket interior and a Four speed. He wouldn't buy a car with an automatic and he preferred his Marauders without power steering and brakes. He sold the black one and bought a 64 that was Salmon but it was light pink with a white interior and a four speed. Yeah Mike P. was a throw back. When he came home from Nam in 72 coming into D.C. he went right to the Ford dealer and ordered a new 72 Torino. He got the Q code 351 Cobra Jet cause you couldn't get the 429 with a 4 speed. It was a regular Torino not the sports roof cause they were ugly cars to him. He was Ford and Mercury through and through.

Hi Lou another beautiful car from the 60s! You might be interested to know that Mercury had two body styles in the early 60s. The "standard" roof was the blocky "breezeway" roof that had a roll down rear window. The Marauder of 1963-65 got the "sports roof" in both 2 and 4 door hardtops, which incidentally is the same roofline as the Ford Galaxie 500s. Just my opinion, but both the 1964 Ford and Mercury were the best Ford products of the 1960s, along with that fabulous Lincoln Continental!

Good video, one of my favorites. If I were old enough in 1964 to buy a car, the Mercury Parklane would have been my first choice. I would have wanted it as a convertible. I would have gone with the stock mufflers, Park lanes were luxury cars they were suppose to be quiet. Even so I like this car.

Smooth riding highway cruiser. Competing with the '64 Riviera. Tough competition. The luxo-barge era had "smaller" versions - that's what this one is. Not a 4-door so just imagine the waves crashing over your fenders with kids playing hopscotch in the different zip code that is the back seat.
@W1se0ldg33zer6 жыл бұрын
They'd offer these massive race engines on a luxury car back then - could get that dual quad 427 in this. But those were intended for use at Pike's Peak - won it that year - and they only sold 42 with that engine. 9 were in this model you feature with only three in existence today. Someone who's looking to buy a car to race isn't about to strip out an interior on one of these.
