Yes, people often say that Owen would have been the 1964 Olympic Champion. Yet, if I remember well I read in an autobiography by Dijkstra that Carroll Heiss who knew both Dijkstra and Owen told Dijkstra on the 1960 Olympic podium that she was sure Dijkstra would be the 1964 Olympic champion. If even Heiss who must have seen both Dijkstra and Owen skate still thought Dijkstra would win in 1964 and we think about how slippery ice can be, then nothing is really certain. We can't be sure.

@faeryquene Sjouke reminds me of Tonya Harding in some ways.I visited a famous cemetery near Boston and later I realized that the Owens are buried there in a masoluem there. If I ever am back in Boston,I will check that building out.

@HattieLovesCattie I agree! I think comparing the two Laurence seemed to be the more lyrical skater who could jump well, she seemed to have the whole package-the kind the judges favored more back in the day. Sjouke seemed more of a power skater-her double axel was enormous!

Laurence Owen would have likely won or been on the podium.
