Nice... my dad had that same color blue shortbed 65. It got to where it wouldn't pass inspection so he cut it in half and made a trailer out of the rear...they stopped inspections 2 yes later ,lol.

Yes sir I put a Chevrolet 350 and turbo 400 combination into a 1946 GMC 11/2ton truck back in the early eighties. I acquired the engine at a storage facility because the fellow who had rented the facility was a Navy man and he was transferred and could not sell it. The engine was locked up as he had a rod backwards when he was assembling the engine. Of course. I fixed the problem and installed the engine and transmission. I had the truck stored at a friend of mine's place and I would go down and run it occasionally, Well the first time I went to run the truck the oil was milk and the only way I could figure was that the hood beings a side style with a center hinge could be rain water getting inside the engine (the engine of course was sealed up air filter on the carb and all orifices closed up) After that I would lay a cover over the engine and that problem went away. I later installed the engine into a 1972 Chevrolet four-wheel drive truck in 93 and it is still in the truck today although it is getting to the point where I will need to rebuild the engine. It is sad that people leave engines uncovered to the extent that we have this damage, and of course 283 engines are not that common anymore. They were good little engines. But even though I had this engine in the GMC complete and running (I actually drove the truck to where I had it stored) the dreaded water damage still got into it due to the hood design allowing rainwater to get into the engine (best I could figure). If I were not going down and running the truck (as well as cutting the grass around it) the engine would have been ruined.

Put some vinger down In it that will un stick it be a good ol truck get it a going usually them old trucks that had a six in them that been changed to a V8 runs good rode a many a mile in one of them like the color of that one you do some good videos you sure got a Dandy 53 man that's sharp .
@edwardmulder37772 жыл бұрын
Deffo a good idea to soak the whole engine in vinegar for about 1 _ 2 days like a coupla other guys suggested with a pan on it then the trans fluid , vinegar will eat up the rust
@larrywoodruff75302 жыл бұрын
Old abandoned trucks are really on fire right now, they are all going to be scarfed up and saved, that's a good thing, lotsa videos comin, lotsa money changin hands.

I love that interior color. Used to have a neighbor that had one just like it he NEVER drove so it was pretty much yard art. I kept trying to get him to sell it but he never would. Then he passed on and one of the first things his widow did was to get that truck gone. I didn't ask her about it only because I figured I should wait a while so I didn't seem like some vulture but maybe I should have asked now in hindsight. This was back in the late '80's so there wasn't any rust on it at all as it sat under a graveled carport.

Great video ... I'm sure yiu could find a motor for the old truck ... yiu probably right about being a different hood....a lot of parts have been "liberated" in the tine in the field 👍
@richardbates2367 Жыл бұрын
Look in the bed you'll see the orange park lights which on this truck are mounted to the hood so I would guess that is what is left of the original hood in the bed and the truck?!

I pulled a 65 long bed out of the woods in Tennessee it had been sitting since the early 90s thing had maybe 60% of it floor pans left had a old school beefed up 250 six cylinder in it with a 230 head common mod in the 70s new fuel lines fuel tank carb rebuild and all new break components had her running and driving in 2 weeks had the strongest running inline six iv ever had it had power like a 350 sbc would burn the rear tires off and pulled like a train
@aldoovercomer54732 жыл бұрын
Good thing you get used gm 350s pretty cheap. If the head gasket went, that could have filled the cylinders with water.... or cracked head.
@SekTauBand2 жыл бұрын
i bought a 56 plymouth last year and found the motor was stuck. sure enough when i pulled the heads three cylinders were full of water. surprisingly, the paraffin oil had protected the cylinders and there was only minor surface rust that i could wipe off with my finger! i got it unstuck and the cylinders look great. i'm currently rebuilding the heads and i plan to replace the bearings, hone cylinders and put it back together. best of all there was virtually no ring ridge at all!

Stick one on cameras that hook to your phone then check out the cylinder walls in the Pistons see how stuck it is for me if it ain't bad I don't know maybe a WD-40 or a little bit of transmission fluid down each tundra that'll open help open up the valves too when it starts but if it's real bad and it's really vinegar
@jasongreen22522 жыл бұрын
I think that's cool a 283 with three speed on the column best is cool
