Two pickup trucks with campers and cowboys arrive, they talk, and both drive off and race in a desert; they wager over a belt buckle and race again; the men fire at each other's tires; one rolls of the side of the road and turns over; he jumps from the truck, takes off the belt with the buckle, and starts chasing the other man, waving the belt.

'68 Chevy 1/2 ton was available with rear coil springs and trailing arm suspension or leaf springs.. I had one with coil springs.. I am guessing leaf springs maybe have been a bit more stable for heavly loads..

The only way that Ford could keep up with that Chevrolet is with a down hill slope with a tail wind!!!

Having owned both, '65 C10 lwb 283 v8 2bbl with sm420 4 speed and 3.73s out back, and a '66 F100 lwb, 352 2bbl, 3 speed on the column, 3.25 9inch out back. Had some help from a friend one day and did a bit of a drag race for fun. the Ford was a fair bit faster, so not too sure about the video. The Cruise o matic like the one in the video is no speed demon, that might be it, or they simply might not of used low gear to make the Ford look bad. Most Cruise o matics started out in 2nd when put in regular "drive" you had to put it in low or "drive 2" to get first gear, that'd wake it up. Any way you slice it, doesn't matter much today. What does matter is both of these trucks were built to last and withstood the test of time, they look stunning and both put most modern trucks to shame.

It was on already from having to tow the Chevy. All jokes aside both were great trucks at the time. Now in 2022... Maybe not so much. Chevy hasn't had many good trucks come out of their plants since about 2008 and all their budget cuts and out-sourcing to other cheaper manufacturers, and most importantly moving a lot more production out of the USA. My '05 2500Hd is an excellent truck, but it will be the newest Chevy i will own for a very long time, thats for sure.

Ford #1 selling truck for the 47th year in a row! Pay attention next time you get behind anything with a Chevy engine that’s 10 years or older, the fumes are so bad it’s ridiculous. 47 years and counting! #1

This is very near where I live today in Gold Canyon, Arizona! That opening scene where the trucks are parked looks like the it might be the old movie/TV studio that was located in Gold Canyon back in that time. When the sheriff gets in the truck at :27, right in front of the open wing window, you can see the rock face known as Flat Iron on the far western edge of the Superstition Mountains. That's what it looks like from Gold Canyon. As the scene cuts to the race, I think that is farther east on the old US-60 alignment heading towards Queen Valley. Those dang tall campers are blocking my view of the hills to pin it exactly, but no doubt about that opening scene. And considering that the huge, and now closed, GM Arizona Desert Proving Grounds facility was just 10-miles as the crow flies southwest of this location, it sure makes it even more convincing to me. As for the second race and shooting scenes starting at 2:09, I think that could be Highway 79 which branches off of the US-60 and heads south towards Florence, Arizona. Coincidentally, if this is Highway 79, this is also the stretch of road where the car jumps the train in the 1980 Kurt Russell movie Used Cars. It's neat for me when I see places that I recognize as I watch videos here on KZbin. I just came to see the truck/camper combos that they used to sell by in the day and then I see where I live, only now 55-years ago.

@@josephg41 the Ford in this commercial probably had a 2 barrel carb on it while the Chevy 327 likely had a 4 barrel Q jet. Makes a big difference. I’m a Chevy guy and even I know GM likes to rig contests in their favor 😂. Being a Chevy guy I also admit the Fords were a more robust truck with a better body in the 60s. The amount of rust and rot found on them today prove it. Much easier to find a old Ford that isn’t eat up compared to old Chevys. Once those Chevys start rotting they go downhill fast
@josephg41
@josephg41 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyRebKy Probably true, I know the only way to get a 327 in a '65 light duty was to have the camper special, but Im not sure whether or not they had 4bbls. And what you say is true, in my experience, currently have a '65 C10 283 and a '66 F100 352. Both came from the same areas (East Texas) and both worked a similar career, but the C10 has drastically more rust, like on the firewall, rusted on a curved area that water could never stay, really weird if you're familiar with southern trucks. And all I can say is my 56 Chevy truck that sat out on a ranch it's whole life doesn't have half the rust that C10 does.
@JohnnyRebKy
@JohnnyRebKy 2 жыл бұрын
@@josephg41 Chevys are bad about rusting on the lip above the windshield. When they are eat up above the windshield there’s no saving them without cutting the whole top off lol. When I see that I just walk away. The 67-72s are bad about that spot too. It’s not something you can just patch and fix. Your right about the firewall too. If they get drove they stay good. But If they sit a few years the firewall goes to hell in a hand basket pretty quickly Like I said I’m a Chevy guy at heart but facts are facts. They just don’t have the quality body the Fords had and it shows today. Chevys are just cheaper to play with and parts interchange much easier. Also when it comes to pulling power in a truck those Ford FE big blocks are hard to beat. Technically the 352 360 390 were big blocks although Ford never labeled them as big blocks. But they are torque monsters
