@TestECull Жыл бұрын
Modern plastic garbage won't even make it to the rock field without a MIL lit and won't make it 100 yards into the rock field before something gets ripped off the bodywork and something in the driveline goes sproing. Modern trucks are made to look tough but are optimized for the mall crawl they're actually gonna be doing. These old 57s? They were built tough because, back in 1957, people bought trucks to actually WORK them. They HAD to be tough. They weren't family cars or daily drivers back then, they were workhorses. You bought a sedan, coupe, convertible, or wagon for your everyday use and you bought a truck for heavy work. It ain't like today where you buy a truck for your everyday commute and pay someone else to do the heavy work. You stand a better chance of making that climb in a 57 Apache than a 23 Silverado. But I suppose the 23 has air conditioning and a radio so you're comfortable waiting for the off-road recovery vehicle to drag you back to civilization after you break something in the steering or explode the transfer case....or just simply piss the computer off bouncing over something and make it disconnect the pedal from the throttle like they're prone to do.

@davemarshalljr4 жыл бұрын
Nope... I live very close to Pikes Peak. My home faces the mountain from the top of another mountain about 10 miles away, and on clear days, I see Pikes Peak from my living room. The entire mountain is managed by the US Forest Service. You have to pay $10 per person just to drive up the paved highway to the top now, and have to be off the mountain by 5pm, or earlier depending on the time of year. It's especially beautiful when coated in snow. They keep the paved highway clear of snow most days of the year, but it's occasionally closed due to heavy snows and ice. It is a money maker for Colorado Springs, the USFS, and Manitou Springs. It gets really crowded at the top during the summer. Climbers climb it pretty much every day of the year, but they also have limits on hours when they can even be on the mountain, or get huge fines. Yes. They have a few man made water reservoirs up there, and a Visitor center and gift shop at the top, and a massive new one is being constructed right now... But no residences, malls, etc. There is one small lodge about 2 or 3 miles from the top... Hard to get into.

They said “no loss of power was noticed”, and considering the gradual loss of power, that might be technically true, as in they lost power, but the slip was so small that it was negligent for much of the trip. Or, in typical advertising fashion, it’s total bullshit
