I once knew a Navajo medicine man who used to drink a shot glass of Marvel Mystery Oil every night before bed. When I asked him why he did this, he said "Helps keep Injun from getting stuck!" (wait, I hear somebody banging on the door......uh oh, it's the thought police. They're here to drag me off to Siberia for not using the term "native American " in the joke) Seriously, Rev, you rock. It's great to see a man of God having fun and fixing up the old school iron with a sense of humor. Let's hope that your joy is contagious. I also love Sleeperdude for the same reason. He does a beautiful job on all of his cars, you can easily see that he's also a great husband and dad, and his family and critters are awesome, the goats, the pig, and the rooster. Both of you guys are an inspiration to me. (Wholesome, God fearing folks with love and a sense of humor) I hope millions of others see what I see as well. I love the footage of your place, It makes this old Atlanta. boy a little homesick but I love it just the same. I just liked and subscribed. Peace and God bless!

Pray for a fellow GA boy, Rev! You have inspired me. I have me an abandoned 1995 F-150 with an 8 ft bed and two gas tanks under my carport! 302-V8 and 4 spd automatic transmission. Ripping off all the computer and smog crap and putting me on a small 390cfm 4bbl Holley carb. A fun summer project for me! I am putting an HEI distributor on her. Sacrilege putting GM on a Ford, but the one wire hook up is too hard to pass up! Since I will be tearing a bunch of stuff off, she is going to get the valve covers yanked, cleaned and painted Ford Blue. Same thing for the new Summit intake manifold!

guys I love the channel! been a Ford guy a long time now. it does seem like the cam in that engine is a 351 firing order camshaft. if you look at the two firing orders only four wires are switched - 15426378 versus 13726548 - only 54/37 are switched. now what I have seen happen is when you have an unknown assemblage of parts, Ford had different timing pointer locations, different balancers and different timing covers throughout the years. if you get #1 on TDC by looking through the plug hole or a piston stop then you can verify if the balancer and timing pointer are matching at 0 degrees on TDC. next it still runs like it has a healthy vacuum leak, possibly the bottom of the intake gaskets or a crack somewhere. The only other thing it can be is i would check how the intake valves are adjusted. on early heads they used both straight and positive stop style rocker studs. if the intakes are too tight or even wrong pushrod length they could be not seating properly. cannot wait for this thing to run and drive well! Jeff

...and there you have it. Rev, if you're seeing this, that's why a tired engine can seem like it sorta runs on either firing order. Four of the eight cylinders are in the right order no matter which one you try. Kudos to Jeff for pointing it out so I don't have to! 🙂

This reminds me when I put a step above stock cam in my 1976 Ford Elite/351W. My mechanic (a Chevy guy) and I worked for 3 days trying to get that thing to run right. As I was looking around the shop, my eyes noticed some red lettering on the box the cam came in. It said "warning! When using this cam in a 351w, you must use a 289/302 firing order.". We changed the order and it started on the first bump! Just the opposite of what you experienced here! 😎😎😎

I’m glad it was the Firing order that fixed it. It was so sweet seeing your parents together they are so Blessed 😇. The only thing that I could think of that carburetor sounds like it’s got a little trash in it and the acceleration pump may be worn probably just need replaced. Overall it runs really good now. Looking forward to seeing the next video David have a Blessed one sir. Iron sharpens Iron.

Who needs gloves and seat belts. Never use gloves for anything. Once in while I thought about it when I picked up the wife’s rose bush trimmings, though. I get a kick when people get in my ‘64 and look for the seat belt. Car was ordered with every option but that. Next year they were standard equipment. Love the clean wholesome entertainment here. I know I’ll never be annoyed by the content. God bless.

Hey guys. Great content as usual. You’ve exhausted almost every avenue externally. I don’t trust anyone especially with engine work. I’d start looking internally. If some one had there mits in there and not really knowing what they’re doing the camshaft may not be dialed in. I’d also check the distributor gear and distributor shaft wobble or play. All that can throw off timing.

I know it is 289 or the camshaft that is designed for firing order 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 because the rocking and vibration is seen by the eyes of expert ASE mechanic is what helps the engine into smooth running like it is kitten purr and neat as sewing machine.
