Follow the restoration process through a complete, frame off restoration of a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL at our shop, Driven Restorations LLC in Randolph WI. We started with 2 Ford Galaxies in different states of disrepair. The 2 cars were combined into one fully restored Ford Galaxie 500 XL and sold to a Ford collector in the Virginia area.

Love it...but shouldn't the block be blue?

Actually, block on a 65 should be black. Valve covers & aircleaner would be gold.

LOL, well, no actually. We held on to it for awhile because we had a TON of customer work come in. This was our only and our last builder we did. We listed it for sale before it was done because we needed the room and it was sold within a couple weeks, finished up and shipped out 30 days later. Sad to see it go far away, we would have liked to see it every once in awhile. I'm sure the collector who bought it is enjoying :)

Wish I had the knowledge and skills to do a complete restoration of my 63. Sheet metal work is a art in itself beyond my capability. Awesome job on this Galaxie glad to see it saved

Makes me miss my 65 XL! Love it all except I just can't get past the engine in Chevy orange. Why did you ever pick orange? Does not go with the red at all to me. Just my opinion thanks.

I was wondering that myself. According to the sources I've seen, the engine block and heads should have been black, with gold air cleaner and valve covers for that year. www.galaxieclub.com/Colors.html

We weren't building it to factory perfect, just trying to save 1 car out of 2 VERY rough donors. Can't please everyone at once and the guy who bought it didn't seem to mind the orange engine :)

@@drivenrestorationsllc9856 I appreciate the reply. The fact it isn't what I would do doesn't matter so much, since it wasn't built for me. It was just one of those things I noticed, that sort of leapt of the monitor at me as being different.

When they put those fucked,childish flams on THAT FINE 65 Fss back, then they totally ruined that great car.anyway it can be re painted.

we have no idea why they did that, it was a terrible job! That body was scrapped in the end, only the frame and interior was used from the flame car

Looked like that transmission had a detachable bellhousing, like a C4. My father had a base '65 Galaxie 500 two-door, white on bottom, light blue on top, blue interior, 240, three-on-the-tree overdrive. Probably okay on the plains of the Lubbock area, but must have been dicey in the mountains of New Mexico.

Color choice could have been better, like an OEM color, red and white looks odd. Also, why, after all that work, didn't you use the OEM carb, air cleaner and wheel covers? Those Edelbrocks are just volume controls, making more noise and lower gas mileage. Since the metal is restored, you could still go to a correct color and put back the Ford carb and air cleaner and wheel covers. This would increase the value of the car considerably! It would also drive better with at least stock mileage which wasn't great.

We've stil got some trim parts and interior pieces around that we are selling. Let us know if we can help get you anything! Good luck on your project! This one was also very rough...which is why we had to use 2 cars to make 1

Driven Restorations LLC I’m 15 and have a chance to buy 2 65 galaxies both 500s one is a xl for $1500 is that a good deal I know the older gentleman one is halfway restored and just needs rockers and rear quarters and do you have any tips I’ve always wanted an older car
@drivenrestorationsllc9856
@drivenrestorationsllc9856 5 жыл бұрын
@@cosmictoast8930 Definitely a good deal if between the 2 cars you have all the parts you'll need, especially trim and interior. Sheet metal is available but the fit is really questionable and will need a lot of re-working.

Awesome! We have mostly trim for exterior and interior here still. A glovebox door, wood grain trim for the dash, light trim etc. A lot of it has been sold via Ebay in the last 4 months or so

Thank you! It's NOT the factory correct red because that tone was WAY too orange, but it's pretty close to factory appearance without clashing with the red interior

While actually able to work on it, it took about 800 hours including all engine work, refinishing and interior. It was in our shop for over 3 years though because it was our shop project and customer work kept bumping our timeline! It was sold a month before we finished it and joined a collection in West Virginia with a number of other Fords

4 doors would be tough to come out ahead of the cost to build it. The Fastbacks are increasingly popular though! Maybe part it out if the body is in rough shape?

just a shame with the odd colour bits,like the roof white,console,and bits under the bonnet,the dash got changed? but at least its not rusting away.
@drivenrestorationsllc9856

The dash was changed because we had one donor with A/C and one without A/C. They had different dash configuration. Sorry you dont like the color...but if you dont like it, dont buy it! JK it's already sold years ago ;)
