I think 1962 was the first year for the mid-size Fairlane. (My grandfather had a 1961 that was a full-size car like the Galaxie.) That Windsor family of engines included the 221, 260, 289, 302, and 351W. The was I understand it, engineers knew that 221 wasn't going to be enough engine to pull that car. So, I think the Challenger 260 was next. My grandfather later traded for a 1968 Fairlane with a 289 that he gave me to drive years later when I turned 16. It had automatic transmission and an AM Philco radio that I added an FM converter to get local stations and that was it. It wasn't much to look at, but it was fast enough for me. Wish I had it back! Great video!

Another survivor gets a new lease on life, the kid helps out and learns something The end result is spectacular, and a stinky old crusty beast that might have gotten crushed if idiots were in charge can now be a fine and beautiful daily driver if you so desire. My heart skips a beat and does a backflip. Everybody wins. Outstanding work, sir. I wish you nothing but the best!!

My first car was a '63 Fairlane w/ bench seats and three on the column with the 221 V8 engine. I was 16 and the car was three years old. I paid $750 for it with pretty low mileage. I drove the heck out of the car, but this was the beginning of the muscle car era, and I couldn't wait to get enough money to get into a muscle car. It took me a couple of years to be able to afford a '66 Olds 442. But my dad drove the Fairlane for another few years as a drive to work car. These things were sturdy but easy to work on. Great video! Lots of memories there.

I had a 1963 4-door Fairlane 500 in that same color scheme, 1970-73. It had an anemic in-line six; that little V8 must’ve been such a better prime mover. This is one of your best yet. I’m going to stick my nose in your life a little. I listen to your videos through my new Bluetooth hearing aids. Please wear noise protection when running power tools.
