I’m 26, my first car was a 65 mustang. Actually, it was 3 mustangs my dad saved from the scrapyard. He told me at 15 that I had to build my first car. Spent the next 2 years every night and weekend turning those 3 into 1 good one. So all my love for cars and working on them started with that mustang. Still have it and going to put a toploader in it next.

Unpopular opinion: the new generation has a HUGE love for old school cars, it's just that the economy makes it tougher to restore cars. Classics are expensive and parts are as well. Combine that with how cost of living has increased over the years, and it becomes extremely hard for most people in the 15 to 25 range to try to rebuild cars. I has a 68 camaro and a 72 Chevelle that I spent all my childhood savings on. When my family came on hard times, I had to sell the 68 and the years later I lost the 72 in the large 2016 flood in Louisiana. At that time, I couldn't afford another as I was paying for college. Now I currently have a 64 mustang and a 66 caprice Classic. My love for classics will never fade ❤🙏🏿

They can be easy to work on, if its in good shape. I think they get a bad name more so due to people trying to use old worn out ones instead of getting it rebuilt or getting a replacement. When they ware out, they are a pain to keep any consistency from them. Also they need to be cleaned way more often than a modern age guy would think. Also, rebuilding them is the noneasy part, which I feel turns some people off to them. Just a lack of understanding that carbs need special attention once and a while, and they probably need to be freshin up if they have been sitting for 20+ years lol. Something that would be common knowledge to someone 40-50+ years old.

@@RealJerb that’s true but a good carb will make an old worn out engine scream! Aslong as the carb itself is in working order your good. People act like these modern fuel injection cars won’t be a nightmare in 20 years

I just turned 40 and when I was 7 I rode in my uncle's restored 67' mustang coupe. So my first car at 15 was a 66' coupe. Body was pretty good because it was a Florida car and I spent the next three years tearing it apart and making it better than it had ever been! It was some of the hardest learning curve and hardest work I ever did and it was 100% worth it. It wasn't a drag car but it still ran in the 12's on a 289 hi-po from Jasper racing motors. I love lot's of cars but nothing beats an American muscle car for feeling and fun. I wish more kids got to have some of the experiences I had because it really is a great marker in history for making a car be whatever you want and looking damn good doing it. Nice video and Cheers!

I'm huge into classics too. However, I haven't really bought a classic yet. I think one of the biggest reasons that our generation doesn't like the classics is because its too foreign and special. We grow up on fuel injected modern cars with creature comforts, 60's cars are totally different beast. I think there is a 'feeling' of driving a car. A 60's car drives SO much different than a 90's car. At-least with a 90's car I feel like I can everyday drive, it has some safety features, drives decently in all weather conditions. etc. It requires less effort to drive. It has an ease about it that a 60's car doesn't have. Its familiar and modern. You can also daily drive it and not worry about parts, maintience, or even just dealing with the car, you can simply enjoy the car. On safety, Cars from the 60's don't have ABS, traction control, etc etc. I mean yes, we can drive cars that are less safe, but its still LESS SAFE at the end of the day. Its a risk to consider. Even on regular needs, cars from the 60's don't even have power steering usually, and other creature comforts. Cars from the 60's, while fun, are also more of a chore to drive. 60's cars are more like weekend cruisers, special-event type cars. They're of a different status and usage. A delicacy. 90's cars are something you can take on a cross-country trip and actually enjoy it due to it being no hassle, you can daily drive it, pull it out in different weather, rack up miles, and its way easier to own, fix, and maintain. 90 cars are maximum enjoyment with the least hassle. They're kind of the pinnacle of that in my opinion.

I had a 1965 Mustang as my first car at 18. It was fun for a bit, but I'm glad I sold it. It would catastrophically break down every month like clockwork because I couldn't afford to properly restore it while in college. Oh, and it didn't have seat belts at all, lol. I wouldn't mind having another one as a project car in the future, but I'm more into JDM cars now like you mentioned in the intro.

David, that should be your next Mustang build...a 3.5L EcoBoost...you have mentioned wanting a vehicle with that engine in a lot of your videos...perhaps if a vintage one would be too much money up front, maybe look at a fox body or S95 gen...that would be seriously epic. The other cool thing about the EcoBoost, is they are pretty quiet, but can have lots of power, especially if you put larger injectors and tuning (before the next evolution, bigger turbos).

2:50 FYI; the Edsel wasn’t “sloppy,” it was AWESOME! It wasn’t marketed correctly AT ALL!! The Edsel was a premium piece; slightly above Mercury, think about it as if Ford made a line of cars to support the T-Bird. Think Toyota Avalon, not a Lexus, but is some ways better! America wasn’t ready for that type of differentiation yet. Edsel Ford had been dead for several years from the ulcers he’d accumulated from dealing with his father. Do some research; Edsels were hella nice Bro!

I love making old stuff relevant, the 3rd gen camaro is about as expensive as I want to get, but I took a rebuilt vortec 350 with a 4barrel intake and multi port bungs from “Marine power” ( intake comes setup for a carb with pipe plugs in the injector bungs ) so I got some Chinese fuel rails, and 4150 style throttle body and I’m controlling it with an eprom emulator and tuner studios software that allows the use of a wideband so that this ancient ecu can now “auto tune” its base map and I can build the motor into whatever I want. And the great thing is that the tuning changes can be done while the engine is running so you can see in real time what your changes are doing

I daily drove a 65 Mustang for like 6 years now. And yes, it had issues. But the shell is still good with no rot anywhere and I even drove it on long road trips a few times. And the mod list I drempt up for it is endless. I even considered a 2JZ engine swap but with those going for 6 grand used now for the vaunted GTE version, its pretty unlikely. So if I was gonna do a Japanese engine I figured I better make it a V8 like a 1uz or VH41 or something. Definitely want a manual overdrive transmission and definitely want AC. Also considered new lights. In stock form, the 200hp V8 and 3 speed auto combo is sluggish off the line but they get the job done (most of the time). The stock Ford carb is ehh. All 4 drum brakes non assisted aren't great for high speed stops but they do work. I had it radio swapped because I dont like AM radio and the fact that it still looks stock is nice. I run the stock suspension and its very soft which is a double edged sword. Yes its a nice ride, but it also doesnt handle corners well. Typical for back then.

Let's be thankful some companies now sell full reproduction shells with the firewall, doors and trunk. It's more expensive, but it saves a lot of time and trouble. I'd love to build a fresh one myself.

Well, ever since I knew about cars and looks I was automatically hooked onto classics, not into 90s jdm as much. 60s pony cars or muscles are the best.

I'm 58, my Dad pulled up for child visitation in a beat, 65 coupe, 289/with a C4. This began my restoration skills training, and car mania then started at 11 yrs old. We did that restoration, and then a daily driver 66 coupe/with a 3 speed stick. I still have his 47 Ford street Rod, and especially that 65 coupe, which now has a 302 and an AOD. Currently building a 65 GT350 clone, its still a ways from driving... The point is, if you get into this at a young, and impressionable age, it could become a lifestyle, if yer not careful. No regrets. Be passionate about something, otherwise what's point of being here 😉?

I've got 2 dream cars, neither of which I'll ever be able to own or do what I want to them if I managed to find one at a decent price. I want a 49 mercury coupe, chop top on air bags, matte black paint, fat white wall tires on classic style rims. Red interior. ORRR I want a late 60's impala sedan, yes I'm a supernatural fan and no my love for old impala's didn't stem from the show.

I owned a 65 Fastback and a 66 coupe 40 years ago. If I was to own another, it would be a resto mod. Visually stock except for wheels and brakes. The old brakes and suspension weren’t the best.
