Nice demo man..I just picked up one at Carter’s. I originally had one of these and sold it about 6 years ago. The minute the cash was in my hand I realized the huge mistake I made. I was so glad to find another and in pretty good shape. Of course the price appreciated a bit but so worth it. These are great amps with such their own voice. Plays great w pedals too..

I had one of these amps. It was made in 1960-1961 and was given to me in 1971. It was in perfect shape everything was intact and worked great. I sold it in 2011 just before having smaller low wattage amps became popular. I sold it for $500.00.

Curious about how the 6L6’s affect the tone. I know changing the coupling cap in these dirties it up and it looked like they upgraded the output transformer…..any code you can see on it? It sounds great. Kind of a Swiss army of amps. I have this same model that I’m about to do some maintenance on and this video intrigued me. I’ve used that monitor out and love it. Any hints or tips would be appreciated. Did they happen to change the power transformer and choke? I’ve seen them do this to Princeton’s but it doesn’t look like they changed the PT or Choke. Maybe they’re just running the 6L6’s a bit cooler?

Yes, one of the transformers was changed out. I don't know which one it was, there are 2 of them in the chassis. Output? Power? But it was switched out to one that is commonly used in fender amps of similar wattage. I can take detail pics for you of interior if you are interested. I'm not super techy when it comes to the engineering but can take some closeups if you want. Let me know your contact info at 12footchain@gmail.com and I'll send

Great review! Can you possibly do a review of your Les Paul? It looks like the Custom shop Clapton/Harrison model Lucy.

I have the same amp, love it. After owning it for a decade I wanted to stick a different speaker in than a Jensen and put a Greenback in it and it AMAZING!! Very Keith/Mick Taylor with my LP and SG.

I picked up one about a year ago it has very weak volume and tremolo and reverb. Might the tubes need replacing? I love these amps. Ty. Great video.

Did they upgrade/change the output transformer? Mine has a teeny weeny output. I would love to know what changes they made-bypass caps/ filter etc as there’s a lot of info on the web on how to hot rod these circuits.

I had to replace the output transformer to one that they use for a Fender Princeton

I have a friend in another state going to look at one of these for me tomorrow ('65). Anything important he should look for? I'm not too good at vintage amps. Seems to be all original. Thanks!

Not sure. I th8nk the original ones had 10 inch speaker, but some mod them to 12 inch which I personally think sound better. Other than that just make sure tremolo and reverb sound good.

Any chance you could read me the codes off the speaker frame? That's the best sounding Falcon I've ever heard. The CTS sounds really good just curious what model CTS. I have this same amp same year etc. but mine has had the speaker changed and I'm getting ready to get rid of the tone suck couplet thing people always take out. Will do the .022 cap as well like they do. That speaker in your amp sounds fantastic. I wonder if it's original cone ? Thanks for any help love the tone with the Les Paul and 335.

Hey thanks so much. It was the original cts 12" speaker. I sold the amp a while back so don't have more details, apologies. It did have to get a new power transformer, that was the only thing that was replaced on it. I believe they used a mojotone that was typically used in princetons for that. It was a great amp, just shuffling the deck from time to time.

My favorite amp! The ugly brown pre crestline is the best amp ever. The reverb and break up are unreal! Great for studio and live playing cause its 15 watts

I have one Gibson Falcon and one Epiphone Pacemaker ( same amp ) and play out with both through an A/B/Y switch. The key for me though as both sounded horrid when I got them was to have Skip Simmons in Loma Rica ( No Calif) do his famous tone stack repair on them, and he suggested getting big heavy duty vintage alnico speakers in them and putting the Jensen aside in a box. It's night and day different. They typically sound thin, weak and not worth buying. After Skip fixes them, they are twice as loud, the reverb is twice as deep and the tremolo is 3 times as strong. Amazing amps when fixed right. Have to believe Tom had this fixed by someone as that speaker is a tell !

I think my ear just in the end favors fender and marshall circuits. It was still a great amp, but I sold it to buy a deluxe reverb tone master.

@@12footchain Similar with me .. never owned one but plugged into a couple over the years, sounded cool at first but that seems to wear off. Gibson amps kinda remind me of my first Sears Silvertone amp w/reverb & tremolo I got in 1969 when I was 14. You have a Lotta nice guitars, all my favorites! .. Surf's-up! .. Brian in SoCal.

good question, I had it serviced and it had 6L6s in it, and we replaced with fresh JJ 6L6s because that is what was in there prior. But have you seen them with 6V6's? Tone difference?

@@12footchain I actually like the 6v6's they are a lower wattage tube, so there are more questions than answers on what was done and why. I know that some people like to run "Stout" 6v6's in 6l6 amps for tone but not the opposite. The amp sounds good so I don't know what or why!
