WOW. Awesome vintage video here. The opening of the Astrodome in 1965 just amazing. With the legendary Howard Cosell along with players like Rusty Staub and the great Roger Maris. I believe Mickey Mantle hit the first home run ever in the Astrodome. Again thx for uploading this nostalgia video. 👍👍👍

OMG!!! I was born in August 65 and I was a baby when my family moved to Houston from Los Angeles the same year. I live in DC now thank you so much for posting. I just love this!

This is what KZbin is all about, not some cat walking over piano keys, but things like this that you never knew existed until you saw it with your own 2 eyes.

back when smoking was allowed in the dome a thick cloud of smoke would build up at the top during an event..lol

Howard Cosell is iconic. His detractors have already been forgotten.

I always liked those first Houston Astros home uniforms.

Sixty years ago the Astrodome was state of the art and the eighth wonder of the world, now it's only an empty decaying hulk.

A must-watch concerning the Astrodome is Robert Altman's Brewster McCloud. Most of the film's scenes take place there because the title character lives in the utility room in the stadium's bowels.

Howard’s voice sounds just a little bit high-pitched as though the tape speed is a touch fast. But it’s still great listening to him.

Pre-toupee Cosell. The Yankee dynasty got to the Astrodome just in time to collapse. But it hadn't happened yet.

Appartmentments in the Astrodome!?!?!
@kevinworkman415818 күн бұрын
Yes, they had several with a huge suite window to watch the games. Judge Hofheinz who had the idea to build the stadium in the early '60s had an apartment and board room there. There was also a bowling alley, several restaurants and bars, and a huge gameroom...all on the suites level. It was a fantastic place and an engineering marvel. RIP Astrodome

Apartments? you mean luxury suites
@epaddon3 жыл бұрын
No, apartment is correct. Judge Hofheinz actually lived there during those early years of his ownership.

@@epaddon didn't he have a bowling alley also in the dome?

The future billion dollar mallparks were a foregone conclusion with this glaring monstrosity. Did Rusty call him Howie? Mike Schmidt hit one of the speakers in '74 - sabr.org/gamesproj/game/june-10-1974-mike-schmidts-3-hits-lead-phillies-12-0-shutout-astros Hofheinz was forced out barely 10 years later.
