Was a junior member of the SCG at 11. Went to the game by myself. My clearest memory was a packed ramp leading down to the ground from the Paddington end. About two thirds of the way down, I 2as getting badly squeezed by the crowd. A friendly man saw I was in trouble, picked me up over his head and yelled “He’s a member. Let him through!”. I was passed through a number of hands- can’t remember how many- all with the same message and safely made the gate. Really different times!

My dad went to this grand final, and he told me that Anzac parade was bumper to bumper all the way back to Kingsford and Cleveland st all the way back to city road at Broadway.

I doubt any current team could handle either of these 2 teams. Best 2 teams in history.

Love the old style goal kicks, five yard rule,coathangers, unlimited tackles, scrums, field invasion at full time, that crowd and what was it back then $200 a win 50 bucks a loss?? 😁

Such a different game then , alot of sutte biff . Abit of a grind. I love how the crowd were able to swarm the field, l remember the fun of jumping the fences and getting autographs , and tackling the other kids with jerseys on .

I was there standing on a milk crate on the concrete in front of the Sheridan Stand.

No milk crate but on the fence in front of the Sheridan, also there in ‘63 to watch Wests vs Saints. Boy those were the days.

😊l was one of those guys sitting on the roof... Game was a sellout , so we paid to get into the motor show next door.. then we climbed the buildings inside the showground and onto the roof of the eastern grandstand ... The police moved us on but as soon as they reached the other end ' everyone sat back down.. They gave up and left us there .. Lucky no one was hurt...

Souths beat St. George twice in the minor premiership. I think Balmain might also have done that in 1966.
@saintjohnno Жыл бұрын
But St George won the games that really counts.. the Grand Finals .. Souths and Balmain the bridesmaids on both counts... 🤗

Someone watching a portable tv in the audience.. Very high tech for 1965.

Pity South's relied too much on taking stinking pen goals, which was usual ,who knows if kept ball on attack,fine game,

Right at full-time former Wests player Buddy Cain can be seen stealing the ball from the ballboy

Unlimited tackles, so why kick the ball, except in an attacking move? 3 points for a try, and 2 points for a goal for a minor offence 50-metres out. Ridiculous. At least league eventually saw sense and reduced incentives for lots of long distance time wasting goal kicks. Union still hasn’t learned.
