One of the tornadoes passed just south of my uncle’s farm near Prospect, Ohio, on state route 257. I believe the tornado was in a rope stage. You could see a shallow trough in the field and then it crosses the road and demolished a church. It literally went right up a slate sidewalk through the small cemetery and nailed the church. The grave markers closest to the church were the old, thin tablet-looking ones. They were tilted inward towards the suction of the funnel on either side. Kind of eerie.

My husband was born 8 days after this outbreak on April 19, 1965. He passed away on June 5, 2022. I was 8 years old when the outbreak happened. We lived in Michigan, and it was a stormy day, and we had tornado watches, but no tornado. We lived in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. (Jan Griffiths).

I remember the blanket tornado warning which was issued by the Weather Bureau that evening just after 6 pm. I was standing on a hill, looking north from North Walnut Street in Bloomington, IN and seeing thunderstorm clouds which looked like atomic bombs up north of Indianapolis. The next weekend we drove up to Frankfort to visit my aunt and uncle. The damage around Lebanon, IN was mind-bending. During our trip, we drove over to Russiaville and Alto, IN -- which were *gone*.

Your descriptions make it all very tangible. I really looked all the places up on a map and checked the distances. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for bringing this to us. There is comparatively little video footage of these older storms which makes them even more valuable.

Nearly 60 years ago. All has been rebuilt. There's been more tornados since.

I saw that documentary about the 1974 outbreak that wiped out Xenia. The only one worse was 2011. Even Springfield, Mass. got one.

Of course everything has been rebuilt. Almost 58 years ago. And of course more tornadoes, and more and severe outbreaks. That's a long period of time. (Jan Griffiths).

This was a tornado outbreak and nobody expected,By the time warning went out it was over,

Tornado forecasting has improved a lot since then. But forecasters don't always get it. Look up "New England's Killer Hurricane of 1938." ONE guy got it right; the other old fogies didn't believe him, and never thought a big hurricane could get that far north. No warnings were issued, and nobody knew it was coming.

Color film was available for Super 8 home movie cameras back then. I have some color home movies that my dad took from around the same time frame. Can't watch them though--no projector. (Jan Griffiths).

Jan, have the super 8"s transferred to a thumb drive. My mother did that to my grandfather's super 8 collection.
