So many things about your car bring back memories. The rear seat tethers, the black interior like my brother's car, the white paint like my moms, the valve covers like my brother put on his 273 and then the 340. The engine compartment look and the classic Mopar starter sound that Mopar guys love and all others hated. Thanks for the memories Lou, and what a great car. I know you are proud of it.

I remember the 65 Barracuda very well because this model along with the 1965 Ford Mustang were the first cars to have the true "fastback" body style of the 60's decade there after the 66-67 Dodge charger had followed. As a kid automobile enthusiast i remember building an AMT model of this car it was very distinct to us back then because of the new slope roof body style.

I inherited my late bro-in-laws 65 Cuda 5 years ago He lived and drove it LA CA'. It had zero rust but needed a lot of work. I had to put a 318 in it as I couldn't find another 273. I put discs on the front and have replaced and upgraded almost every replaceable part. I found Mercedes paid with the original color code--a very dark blue. I drive daily around Portland OR. I have also never seen another one and I also get rave approval..When I park at a store I get mobbed by people. Many of them take pictures. The 318 has more torque than the 273,which got its power at much higher rpm's, People seem to like the sound of the Flowmaster duals.

I have to make a correction , the Studebaker Avanti and ford Galaxie were probably the first popular American cars to feature a semi sloped roof body style , but the 65 Barracuda and Mustang had really been the first models that had defined the "fastback".

Imagine that bay with a slant six! I had a light blue '65 that had a mint body. I thought the engine block was too dirty. I was NOT a mechanic, but I had a torque wrench! Took it apart from the top down. Laid everything out in the driveway, carefully. Most of the parts I did not know their name! Painted the covers, the head, and then the block. My Dad pulled up as I was finishing reassembling. He saw the parts, I thought he would have a heart attack! By the way, I did not know you were suppose to change the gaskets. I finished up and waited until the next morning. Started up and ran great. Dumb luck! Took a round trip cross country for 6,000 miles. Could not hurt a slant six! I loved the glass and the back. It was not hot. I just kept all the windows down! Nobody had AC back then . . .

Love the barracuda very rare and very sharp good job. Question if you are ever in Tennessee Mountain city Tennessee to be exact look me up please I have two vehicles that I would love you to see one is my fathers Buick that he left me before he passed. 1975 Buick LeSabre custom two-door hardtop fire engine red white interior 350 Buick built up by me and the other is a 1977 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme my first car 77 Corvette yellow with black racing stripes 350 rocket somewhat built. Living in Tennessee is hard to keep a car in showroom condition but these are mine their drivers clean and fun maybe you can do a review on mine some day take care.

Hi Ron Sussex, Glad you enjoy this "sharp" one :-) Sounds like you have a few cool cars. I'm not scheduled to be in TN in 2018, however if that changes, you're cars sound fun to video. Lou

Where did you find the trim that goes around the outside of the rear window in the rubber weatherstripping? Pure unobtainium! Seriously, where?

Hi David, I'm not sure where. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou

Anorak fact. The UK manufactured Sunbeam Alpine (1970 - 1975) aped the Barracuda’s fastback shape. These too are now incredibly rare.

I would have definitely passed on the Barracuda in favor of the Mustang fastback with a bigger motor and more modern styling as most people did at the time. However today, as mustangs are ad nauseum and commonplace, the Barracuda is actually cooler due to it's nostalgic lines and rare numbers still in existence. Today I wouldn't trade my Barracuda for a fastback even if my wallet was pleading for me to do so.

These are cool because of the rarity and uniqueness factor, but I always felt AMC outdid these with the Javelin.

My friends had a gold 65 with the 273 and 4-speed. One day it would not start with the starter so they figured they would push start it having their 12 year old brother at the wheel. Well it started all right and proceeded to go thru the back of the garage. I could not figure out why the Barracuda was parked on the neighbors lawn. The back of the garage jut opened up and closed behind the cuda and there was almost no damage to the car except for a few small scratches across the top.

What was so wild about what happened was how the whole wall of a two stall garage just opened up and closed behind itself without doing very little actual damage to the car or the garage. The look on everyones faces was PRICELESS right after it happened.

I've had and restored two of these...and a '66. This was Mopar's answer to the Mustang, however an interesting fact is that the Barracuda came out just a couple weeks before the Mustang Fastback did!
