My car. Those who realize that I'm running 8.50x14 bias ply tires will understand the slow launches - above 1,500 RPM it will just spin. As for the lousy lights that's all me - happens when you're 71 (you'll see some day). Thanks for posting!

You did great and in the vids and we could see how hard it pulled after the 60', plus great mph at the end so, good job. If anyone wants to see more of this car plus Jack's faster 63 Catalina goto: kzbin.info/door/ekASBB1umMV2mdLd8PfWdA

I do the same with my 65 Catalina with the 389, if I lay into it, it’ll just smoke the tires. Some good rubber on the rear would definitely make a difference.

P.S. This was Pontiac's best styling year by far-1965. Every model says ,"I'm fast and I look great doing it". Pity they're not around any more.

My father actively street raced in our town '64-65. He had a hopped up 383 in a 64 Sport Fury 4 speed. He said that when the Poncho 421s put on slicks or Butal Aire tires, they were tough to beat, even with a much lighter Chrysler B body car. To do so, traction, reaction times, and shift points must be perfect. 1 mishap and the full sized Poncho would be a car length ahead and pull on you from there. Only the cross ram 413s and stage 2 426 wedge cars could beat them consistently.
@davegeisler7802
@davegeisler7802 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are spot on , the Savoys , Belvederes and Polaras with the 413 & 426 Max Wedge were tough to beat , but the Poncho 421SD not 421 HO could hang with the best of them . Legend ! 👍

I had a 65 Catalina 389. I couldn't believe how fast it was! I could beat 340 cudas and challengers but not 350 novas or 340 darts. The dash was made of cast iron! I still don't get it being so heavy. I actually had a guy chase me with an axe while I did a 250ft burnout showing off for his daughter lol. I want to be 16 again! My best friend had a 455 Wildcat and couldn't keep up at all. I wanted to find a GTO for that engine but sold it and found a 70 440 SIXPACK Challenger still under warrantee instead. $1600 in 1974.

Awesome. The dash’s are actually pot metal. Not very heavy. Those cars were about 4,000 lbs. a lot of todays cars are around 4,000 lbs also. They weren’t as heavy as people thought.

Years ago at our local 1/8 mile strip ( now closed) . I went s on a random day to bring my daughter to watch . One of the street cars was a 65 Catalina 421. 8 lugs and all. I didn’t expect it to click off 8.40s . Owner was older and said heads ported some slightly hotter aftermarket cam but rest was just tuning.

I thought the 67 2+2 (428) would eat his lunch, but the 65 driver knows how to run. Well done sir. As for the camera man, kinda remined me of Nemo. Every time the car came to the line...it was a 1st time.

My dad drove a '65 2+2 when I was kindergarten age. I remember sitting in the back seat talking into that crazy reverberator. I was too young to comprehend how brutally powerful that car was, but I remember my dad pulling the transmission out at least twice... I'm sure he was testing traction theory or something, lol.
