Happy to say that I did alot of trips in this truck with Mick and I went to the Adelaide hot rod show with him where we picked up 4 trophies. It had 575 HP at the rear wheels on the ground. Alot of great memories with Mick and the Seattle Star.

Old Seattle Star ⭐️.He used to do regular runs out of Port Kembla loaded with flat steel. This old girl ate the hills up like they were nothing.Weren’t many trucks around back then with the horse power he had.Going up Mt Ousley loaded was a piece of piss,he rounded everything up.Sounded good too.Ahh the memories.

I agree 👍. I wonder how it would compare with a more modern engine like a Cummins Signature about the same horsepower. I'd say the Cummins would have more torque but the Detroit would have way more top end power.

@@andrewking4885 Don’t forget that Seattle Star wasn’t your common 8V71,we’re talking 12VTTA & just quietly,I think she had a little more than 600HP.It didn’t just pass other trucks gradually,it passed them with no mucking around. In 1992,I was driving a White Road Boss,300 Cummins,9speed R/R semi trailer.I was empty & he was loaded & going up Mt Ousley I had to stay behind him because I didn’t have enough to get around him.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I traveled along with Mick and his truck for many years. At times it was a struggle to keep up with them. It also brings back a lot of memories of what it was like to drive these old trucks along the Hume and around Australia. The days before the mod cons in truck today, of quiet air-conditioned cabs with auto shift and cruise control, we had to actually drive and work our trucks to get to where we were going to.

What an amazing truck kind of a crossbreed between a conventional truck and a cab over . European truck manufacturers have been begging to produce something like this for decades built by modern standards will provide the pinnacle of safety with the operator lifted above the forward machinery so not risking being crushed by it in an accident yet still with the nose in front to offer protection also providing better blind spot visibility to the front end plus being able to make the hole truck more aerodynamic.slowly length laws are being changed but we are a long way of yet but maybe some day although unfortunately we may not ever see 2 strokes back working again certainly not in Europe.I think this truck was a one off but 40 + years on still points the way to the future

Hello mate if you google kenworth in australia 2 guys that ran there own transport companys in australia went to the states and negotiated with kenworth to import these S model’s into australia from the early 1960’s the specs at the time were 6v71 Detroit’s , at the time they were the most powerful truck available here. Ed Cameron and george Blomfield , they started kenworth australia until paccar bought them out and started manufacturing there product here in Bayswater Victoria from 1971 ,

Great to see the trucks move right to pass, then move immediately back to the left lane. Exactly as it should be done, and you'd think it'd be a no-brainer. However, judging by the endless parade of cars and trucks in the center lane, passing no one and clogging traffic mile after mile, this simple rule of driving appears to be completely lost on most drivers these days. I can't even begin to count the number of Swift, JB Hunt, Hartt, Schneider, Western Express, and a whole lot more carriers who'll climb a 5% grade, loaded, at 35 mph in the center lane of an interstate. So ridiculously oblivious to the situation they've created. Of course, I'm talking about the US; is it the same in Australia ?

@@Detroit8V92tta No need to apologise. I used to be a truck driver, an owner/driver. My own trucks were all Volvo, F7, F10, F12 400 and my last one a F16 700. Malaga (Spain) to calais return was my run. I started out with the little F7 which was reliable but struggled at 40t with only 224hp. The F16 had prodigious power pulling 44t on the gradients in top gear at 100kph. The worst thing I ever drove was the Ford D series 2817. 9litre V8 perkins with only 170hp, now that thing you could hear in your head a long while after youred parked it up😁 All the best to you.. 👍

Let it pull down a little more than normal and drop 2 gears at one shift. Got tried of shifting the gutless thing all day.
