I love to see Shelby restart mass production on these. They’re art that should be preserved. Screw rarity

Jay Leno jokes that Carrol Shelby signed so many cars that the unsigned ones are worth more because of their rarity 😂

Nothing wrong with tribute cars. The real deals are often far too rare and pricey for most people.

Very well done tribute! I’d drop in a built 363 (looks identical on the outside) and a Tremec 5 speed and replace those fugly seats. It would make an awesome weekend warrior that you could both show and have a ball driving without worry unlike a real GT350.

The roof stripes look like they could be incorrect from the photos and video. These look uniform width, the origional were tapered, wider on the roof to compensate for the optical illusion that stripes would neck-in over the roof. This frequently happens as very few paint shops know anything else as new cars are uniform width. Search "1965 shelby stipe width diagram" for dozens of diagrams. But then again it could be correct and the illusion is doing it's job making them look uniform width!! Also Shelby clones are redicuiously cheap to insure through Hagerty for such a fun car.

YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THAT. I RECENTLY HAD MINE BODY WORKED AND REPAINTED THE CORRECT COLORS AND HAD THE PAINTER FOLLOW THE CORRECT MEASUREMENTS OF THE STRIPES. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS OF MY GT350 TRIBUTE

To clarify, the 2+2 was introduced midway through the '65 model year , accounting for lower production. You forgot to mention "it's a Falcon underneath" like you usually do with first-gen Mustangs.

Manuelle or automatic shift please?

The trunk body work is rather crude but it's easy to be a critic from the cheap seats. I've never seen clips on glass trim before. That 'Stang reminds me of the orange '67 fastback Mustang I found on a dealers backlot back in the mid-70’s (presumably a trade-in) Someone removed the entire trunk floor pan and all that remained was the starting battery in the trunk. Presumably because the engine bay was stuffed with a 390 and didn’t leave room for a battery. It had tube headers, an aluminum high rise intake, a Holley double-pumper carb, a Mallory dual-point distributor, A Hurst competition plus shifter, and someone said the engine lobe indicated a race cam but I can’t say for sure. That orange ‘Stang was a cop magnet, it didn’t matter if I followed the rules of the road or not. But I couldn’t help but oblige whenever challenged. I won every race except one and that was against another ‘67 Mustang, but it was the smaller coupe. We were neck to neck until he started pulling away. I didn’t know the guy but we were both pulled over to receive our tickets and I was shocked to discover he had a smaller 289 hi-po with about the same mods my car had. Anyway, I nearly lost my license from so many tickets so I sold it.

A couple thoughts… some of the R code cars I have seen had plexi windows and straps across the back window as well as an air gap at the top of the back window. Lightweight plexi can blow out of the frame hence the straps and clips… some had no heater, environmentals, window regulators (just plexi with a strap and a snap) no carpet and no sound deadening. It’s all about light weight and speed Batteries are often relocated to the rear more for a weight distribution and handling rather than space…

How much would a tribute like this cost?
@googleusergp Жыл бұрын
Yup, in fact, this was a six-cylinder car originally with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 5 for 1965 model year, R for San Jose, CA assembly, 09 for Fastback, T for 200 CID straight six with one barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The San Jose plant was also called Milpitas Assembly and operated from 1955 to 1983. This was the same plant that assembled the "Bullitt" Mustangs. Other plants that made them during this time were Dearborn, MI (code "F" in the VIN, which assembled Mustangs until the end of the 2004 model year) and Metuchen, NJ (code "T", also called Edison Assembly which closed in 2004). No tag, can't brag, so can't tell what it was otherwise originally.

I would definitely rather have a clone than an original. This, a Cobra, C1 Corvette, or anything else like that. I want something I can drive. And drive hard. I'd never be able to insure an original. They'd see me driving it and cancel my coverage immediately 😅
