, I'm so glad to see people do a " Preservation " vs a restoration sometimes. there is a very big difference. I'm also glad to see that the motor was rebuilt but not over done. same with all the rest especially the paint. I love that original color big time. great job guys, I would love to buy an original bus like this but not have to pay an astronomical price.

one day maybe I can have a split screen like this, top on my list, is a split screen panel van with cabin crew, well I have loved em since my father had one circa 1973, brand new, then he passed away, it was sold, then a few years later his tools were borrowed !! I ain't into material stuff, watching vw campers, etc makes me happy, Thanks for the video,

These look cool with this window configuration. It makes rearward visibility stink but it sure does look cool.
@Volkswear
@Volkswear 7 жыл бұрын
Visibility isn't as bad as you would think. The panel buses are like driving a huge blind spot but the window buses aren't bad. JC.

The M code on this bus probably didn’t indicate it was a Westy since it was German delivered, correct?

We never did buy the orange oval. We have the 59 single cab that was buried and a blue oval that was buried. Are you referring to that one? JC.

Did you end up selling it or keeping it?
@Volkswear
@Volkswear 6 жыл бұрын
Sigman Floyd The owner of this Bus needed to get as much money for it as he possibly could to help with some medical bills. Rather than buy the Bus from him we decided to take the Bus to the shop and refurbish it which we did for just the cost of the parts. We then sold the Bus for much more than he would have got in its previous condition and we kept a small commission on the sale. JC.

It looks like you didn't actually fix the rust on the rockets. Is that the case? It looks like there are actually some holes in the rockers. If that's the case why wouldn't you repair that. Patina, I get. But it seems like that kind of repair would be a necessary enhancement to preserve it for the future.
@Volkswear
@Volkswear 7 жыл бұрын
We had a customer who wanted the Bus left completely original. Once he gets the Bus in his possession he is going to look at the rocker rust and decide what to do with it. The only way to fix it 100% would be to cut it out and replace the metal and fade the paint back in. I'm sure that is what he'll do when the Bus arrives in Berlin. JC.
@timschutte8310
@timschutte8310 6 жыл бұрын
whammond511 , if you watched the video and listened to what he said. that was intentional. they did a Preservation NOT a Restoration !!!!!!! the paint is all original and just buffed out to PRESERVE the bus the way it was. sometimes that's just the thing to do. The next owner may elect to put more money into it if they like. the motor was pulled and rebuilt to factory specs.
@PerfectTangent
@PerfectTangent 7 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, why did you leave the little dents in the body? Would pulling them out have damaged the paint?
@Volkswear
@Volkswear 7 жыл бұрын
Our goal was to preserve the originality of the Bus and keep it as close to original as possible. I find it hard sometimes to draw the line when you start "fixing" dents and dings that involve repainting. The dents, dings and cosmetic imperfections is what is referred to as Patina these days and many people prefer an original paint vehicle with flaws over a perfectly restored vehicle. It could also be because its a lot more work. 😀
@PerfectTangent
@PerfectTangent 7 жыл бұрын
Granted. If you're after patina, do you ever just sand back the rust a little and put on a varnish or clear coat so that the as-found patina is preserved without causing further deterioration?
@timschutte8310
@timschutte8310 6 жыл бұрын
PerfectTangent , it's called a PRESERVATION, NOT A RESTORATION , rewatch the video and listen to what he says. sometimes that's the better thing to do.
