As much as I can't wait to see the end result, I will miss seeing what you have done. I have looked forward to watching these videos each week. Most would have walked away from what we first saw but what you have acheived is absolutely awesome. It brings back fond memories of my father and I working on my Beetle in the late 80s. Although the work we done was no where near what you have done. And the fact the chasis and running gear is all mostly new with the original body goining back on with that patina, AWESOME.

Dear Reader, I see Mr. CT develop himself more and more as a specialist in classic models of the VW brand. I can imagine that he will work on a few more models popular in the United States, and broadening his skills even further. And than start a garage, with paid jobs (reduced prices when allowed to film), and creating his own collection on the basis of this extra income. Because he's now starting to become a specialist for repair and maintenance on classic VW models. Chapeau for this achievement. With Kind Regards, Michel F. van den Brun Dutch pedestrian (and classic Citroën fan)

I get the “patina” look and think its cool and agree with another poster that its cool because, in this case, it’s real. If it was going to be a restoration you probably would have picked one less rusty to start with. I restored a ‘64 bus about 30 years ago and painted it. Took me about 5 years! Thanks CT

I can't totally agree with that. Some repair panels come from sources that use the cheapest primer they can. If you know your supplier doesn't cut corners you can have more confidence, but it's not 100%.

CT's kustoms garage... 😉 I like it. You're doing big progress and giant steps, but there are more spots that need attention and remanufacture. Keep an eye on every rust hole, since it's usually the culprit for rust starting. It's like badly cured cancer, which is returning asap. Anyway, it looks good, so you have just to proceed till the end. Cheers. Keep on

Amazing to watch the progress here (and YOUR progress here)...impressive to say the least! I know the intent is to leave it 'weathered' but given all the time, sweat and $ here, I wonder if it's worth it to soda blast the car and paint it a la new. For sure it will make the care more valuable/a better long term asset for you and the next person when you do go to sell it.
@danielhelbig1116
@danielhelbig1116 Жыл бұрын
I feel like with all of his hours and $ already put into the car I see no reason why he should make it “another patina car” I 100% agree with you that he should sandblast/repaint the body. Especially with all the metal work and new parts.

Definitely not winter Rainey day drivers. When sealing areas keep in mind how water gets in and out. Evaporation out of a seam can save an area. When u wash it or hit puddles water get in, seams in engine compartment can evaporate water out with engine heat. Or water is trapped and just rust to hell fast.

When all is finished and done, I would like to know how many Percent are orignal, i.e. 1965 vintage. With the rest (it must be a large part of the body alone) being redone! P.S.: I forgot to mention: my parents drove Beetles (aka VW Käfer) until 1985. These cars never failed on them, as cars like Peugeots or Citroens (froggy cars!) wouldn't start at sub - zero temperatures! Throughout all this bodywork to replace these rust - eaten parts of the body, one thing becomes clear: with the invention of zinc - plated auto bodies cars now lasted twice the time!
