My favorite Chevrolet of all time (1969 with hideaways a close second). We had a 1966 Caprice wagon when I was a kid. I recall the “Air Conditioned “ sticker in the back window, Chevrolet letting everyone know you sprung for the pricey option.

These were beautiful cars. I prefer powerful 2 door luxury coupes to actual muscle cars. I have had a 1966 Buick Wildcat, a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix, and a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII, and I loved all of them. There’s nothing like having power, comfort, and luxury in one beautiful package.

That glass bottle of windshield washer fluid was a spare container called “Optikleen”. The actual bottle connected to the pump was plastic and mounted to the radiator support. It’s visible earlier in the video.

Yes, it was a unique triangular bottle, it clipped in with metal tabs. If you braked really hard, sometimes it would fly out of the tabs and break. Then you would go the the wreckers and pick up another one. I had three Impalas. A 1963, 1965, and 1970. As well as a 1968 Malibu.

This was meant to be mixed with water in the actual washer reservoir. You could purchase a new bottle when needed at your local GM dealer.

My mother saw the ‘65 Impala in the magazine section of the Sunday newspaper in September of 1964 when the new ‘65 models premiered, turned the page around towards my father and said “Warren! You’re buying yourself a new car! I love this car and I want our family to ride around in the four door hardtop model in navy blue!” She didn’t drive yet herself and she never really asked for much but dad never denied her. They really did have a marriage made in heaven. I and my brother and sister always speak about how lucky we were. On. December 27, 1964 my father drove home his first brand new car, a 1965 navy blue Chevrolet Impala four door hardtop. Hardtops were pillar less four doors. There were also two door hardtops. Hardtops like the Caprice in this video meant that there were no pillars between the windows when the windows were rolled down. Five years later dad opened the magazine section of the Sunday morning newspaper and saw the new 1970 Delta 88 four door Royale Holiday ( hardtop. Holiday was Oldsmobile talk for hardtop ) and bought the car made his pop out. He gave mom the Chevy and finally convinced her that it was time that she learned how to drive. She drove until 2014 which was the year before she passed and she never put as much as a scratch in a car. Dad always said that his Delta 88 was the best car that he ever owned. None of us ever remember him ever replacing anything other than two alternators in that car and he kept it until his end in 1984 because he never wanted to part with it.

@@LlyleHunter Excellent comment!! I need my Biscayne/Bel Air/Impala/Caprice with round tail-lights, so '65 and '68 are my favorite years for their respective generations. I will however make an exception for the '59 full-size Chevy with its teardrop-shaped tail-lights. I prefer those to the round tails on the '60 version. My Dad got a '70 LTD four door hardtop which we kept until '74 or '75, when he jumped ship for Oldsmobile.

Really nice car. My uncle had one. I got to drive a ex-Maryland State Police car base 1966 Chevrolet 2 door post with the 396. It was a neighbor's car. He was a detective. It wasn't worn out or high miles. Back then they got new cars every 3 years and we bought it. It was fast fast fast and got 8 mpg! It basically went two speeds, start and fast. 4 wheel drum brakes but they were oversized. It stopped great. It must have had a beefed up transmission because we drove it hard for 7 years and it never failed. It was a car that required a lot maintenance. We put a set of Corvette spinner wheel covers on it. We finally junked it in 1976 due to rust in the floors and rockers. We sold the wheel covers for $$$ to a guy with a Vette. Wish I had it now.

I can't believe the equipment level on this Chevy, it's beautiful! One quibble, though. The washer bottle on the left fender liner isn't the washer reservoir, it's a bottle of concentrated cleaner that was mixed with water in the actual reservoir. We used to have one on the fender of our old '64 Chevy.

The 65-68 Chevy full sizers were just beautiful cars, and this 66 Caprice is a stunning example. My dad bought a 66 Biscayne wagon to serve as a family/business car (he was a freelance advertising photographer and needed the cargo room for transporting his equipment to photo shoots); white with a red interior (inspired by the 53 Corvette?), 283 v8 and Powerglide. I have a distinct memory of "driving" the wagon down a deserted dirt road - at age 3! I sat on my dad's lap and steered while he managed the gas and brake pedals. Now I'm sure he just let the car creep along just off idle, but that experience is what made me the car nut I am today. Years later, my dad told me how he'd stiffened the suspension on the wagon so that it could handle more cargo weight, and that one day on his commute home from Philadelphia, he encountered a Lotus on the Schuylkill Expressway (a fairly curvy divided 4-lane road). The Lotus driver was having fun on the curves, cutting in and out of other traffic, and my dad decided to see if he could keep up in the wagon. Apparently he did, the Lotus driver noticed and tried to outrun my dad, and my dad kept up! Can you imagine what Mr. Lotus thought as he saw my dad's giant Moby Dick of a wagon gaining on him?

Yes I love the roofline. And as a kid I remember when a neighbor drove home in one of these brand new. It was triple dark blue. Gorgeous car. The neighbors...in our Cadillac, Lincoln, T-Bird neighborhood, were all impressed, commenting on the car and the roof line.
@jamesweddle1846 күн бұрын
Absolutely stunning. This is the first time I have ever seen that cool little stereo control option on the console lid. Never knew that existed. To answer your question, as much as I love fastback Impalas (really all of the GM full-sizes of the era) that "Caprice" roof really knocks me out. Especially on a '66. As the former owner of a blue '67 Impala SS with a 396/4-speed, I would have traded it for a similarly equipped Caprice given the chance. In fact, I rescued the rear bumper, taillight lenses, and front fender running lights from a wrecked 67 Caprice at a local U-pull-it yard to customize my Impala. And that color...I love the GM blues (Marina, LeMans, Nassau, etc.) but Aztec Bronze is gorgeous. Right up there for me with Evening Orchid. Great subject Adam, I love the big cars the best.

I found out today at our Corvair club meeting that Aztec Bronze was a “feature color” in 1966, that dealers were encouraged to sell. One of the guys in our club has a beautiful ‘66 Corsa coupe in Aztec Bronze. The 1965 Chevrolet feature color was Evening Orchid. In 1969 it was Frost Green.

I bought a Caprice that looked like this about 1971 for $700. My father in law traded in his 65 Impala SS for one of these. Brand new with 3 miles, black top, gold body, 427-425HP, 4spd, air, power windows, 4:56 rear. He told me after the break in he drag raced it. Low 13’s stock, high 12’s with slicks. Sometimes they would put him i up against a corvette with the same motor. When my wife and her siblings were kids and riding in the back seat fighting, her Mom would get pissed, drop it in 3rd gear, mash the gas and pin the kids in the back seat. Nothing was said and the kids would be quiet. When I asked Dad why he sold the car he told me it only got 4 mpg and it was the family’s only car. He traded it in for a 67 Camaro.

Mine was a slick top teal coupe. Equipped with basically the same options. Mine was not a CA car, so no air pump. The three note horns were quite loud! In addition, my car had a dealer installed swing out tissue holder on the passenger side, under the dashboard and a power trunk release in the dashboard glove box. Loved that car. I embarrassed a few "pony cars" with it. It had 3.41 gears, same as a Corvette, w/positraction.The wheel covers that looked like "mag" wheels were oh so cool. The windshield washer fluid bottle you mentioned was a holder for extra fluid. The main reservoir was quite a bit larger [about 2/3 gallon, if I remember correctly], nestled in an area just to the driver's side of the radiator. BTW, the Impala you show for comparison of rooflines is a 1965 vintage, not a 1966. Very nice presentation [as usual] of a handsome car. Thank you!

I actually love the simplicity of how handsome the Caprice exterior is. What I like most is the taillight design. My neighbor in Jersey back in the late 70's maybe even early 80's had a 66 caprice with dual exhaust. I'm thinking it was probably a 396 but not sure. It was that seafoam green color no vinyl roof. It sounded fantastic though.

Love these 66 Caprice 2 doors. My Uncle had this car except in solid colour bronze which to my eye is more pleasing. Also he had the 396 2 barrel single exhaust. His also didn’t have these LTD hubcaps. He drove it quite a number of years until unfortunately someone decided to run a red light and totalled it. Beautiful car.

What a beautiful car. I do prefer the impala roofline to the caprice, but a stunning car all the same. Great video.

The four knobs mounted on the aft of the console are the stereo speaker and audio controls for the optional AM/FM stereo radio. They offered this on the 67 Camero.

Always loved the Chevrolets especially Caprices, Impalas, Camaros of the 60s and early 70s. Bought a used 😅73 Caprice 4dr hardtop with the 400 ci engine. Had over 100k on it, we went everywhere in in and averaged over 18mpg. Never had any issues with it. Loved that car.

The Caprice had my all time favorite console/gauge package. This one only needs the L72-4 speed combo, although that would’ve eliminated the air conditioning option.

Adam… thanks for spotlighting this beauty! I was a big Chrysler fan in the 60s because dad was, naturally, but I was smitten with the new Caprice roofline. I think this is stunning, and reflects the upscale push of the Caprice line. The fastback is great too, but this was correct and very well done for Caprice, in my humble opinion. Amazingly optioned, this specimen is priced higher than our $5111 66 New Yorker 4 door hardtop, with only power bucket seats and power windows … no AC, sadly, but what a hot rod, that standard 440! I’d be proud to drive either of them today. Love your channel and your content, as always … Thank you! 🙏🏻👌🏻 BG, Republic, WA

Full-size muscle cars, full-on awesome! Would've been a great time to be a young driver. GM, Ford, and Chrysler alike had both feet in the super-car pool. Got to drive a '62 Grand-Prix 389 Tri-Power and loved it! Thanks for posting this one with us, my friend.

Those mid-'60s Impalas and Caprices offered so much style and class for the money back then.

These are great cars, I had a triple black 67 Caprice for a few years with the 396, power windows and 6 way power strato bucket seat. Sadly I got t boned by a driver running a red light but the door latch held and I'm here to talk about it.

You got boned by the driver and the door latch held? Cleanup Isle one please.

@@MUUKOW3 Yes and the car was still drivable but had no glass on the left side and the door was pushed into the seat

When I was a kid in the early 70s my neighbor had one in blue with a white top. That was his baby.

Agree - the Impala roofline works so much better with the rest of the body design, but the interior on this Caprice is lush!

The fastback is a great look !!!! Im not too crazy over the exterior of the caprice! But the interior looks as if it came out of a very high-end car on the caprice!!! Simple stunning 😍 ✨️

First, what a nice example! Second, I love how all the manufacturers had a metallic bronze paint in this era, copying the Chrysler Turbine Car's Turbine Bronze. Ford had Emberglo (then a similar Indian Fire), and here we have GM with this Aztec Bronze and Oldsmobile had Autumn Bronze (as on your Toronado). I agree with you, that C-pillar is a bit odd looking. Wow, once you showed the interior, it was easy to see that this car is really loaded! That stereo radio must have really sounded great for the day. Adam, that windshield washer fluid bottle was extra for when the regular reservoir ran dry. It and the bracket were a rather common GM factory accessory in this time period.

I don't see how they could have improved on the C pillar. The whole car is a stylistic tour-de-force.

Wow, what a nice and well-optioned car. The tach is nice….I can’t imagine a lot of Caprice cars had that. -And tilt / telescope???? That’s awesome. These options, from the 427 / Turbo 400 to the A/C are wonderful! I could do without that Commiefornia smog pump, but hey… I actually like both roof lines. As for that high geared rear end, well, it’d make this car into a nice highway car. You’re right, the 2 barrel 283 was 195 horsepower, at least as I remember it from the sticker on the engine & the manual of my first car, a ‘64 Bel Air….and I’m sure it was an option, as I believe it came with a 6 cylinder as the standard engine. The 283 sure was a smooth and reliable engine.

I too prefer the fastback roofline, but understand Chevy had to differentiate the Caprice from the Impala. Love the 427
