I had a little old lady come in my shop in the mid 90s needed a battery. The tech came and said you have to see this. Cleanest 69 caprice coupe you ever saw . It was yellow and white. All the bells whistles. Bucket seats and a 427. She told me her son ordered it when he worked for Gm and put everything on car you could get. We told her to appreciate her son

In 1965, our 6th grade class went on a field trip. Back then mothers of classmates would volunteer to drive 4 or five kids to the event. One of my classmates parents had just bought a new 1966, two door Caprice, red with black vinyl top, black interior. My teacher knew I wanted to ride with the group that went with that car and she put me in that group. I was so excited to ride in that new Caprice. Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane.

@@johnnyduplantis What was so exciting about cars back then, was seeing your first new model year of each brand on the street and dreaming as a kid about your time to be that new car owner. Of course, making the monthly payments put a big dose of reality into that moment.

My parents owned the first year Caprice. A 65 white with light blue interior. The first year only offered the 4 door Caprice which had many of the same features as the Impala SS, but wrapped in a more luxurious package. This lemonwood yellow 66 you are featuring is just gorgeous and with the 427 makes it even better. I bet there weren’t too many Caprices made with the 427. That makes it more rare and special. Loved this video Lou.

Hi, Lou! The Caprice was Chevrolet's answer to the Ford LTD. It started out as a trim option package on the 1965 Impala Sport Sedan (four-door hardtop), and for 1966 it was expanded to a full top-of-the-line four-model series with the addition of the hardtop coupe like Rick's car and two- and three-seat woodgrain-paneled wagons. The Caprice took Chevrolet luxury to a whole new level and it remained the flagship bowtie for 30 years. Nothing like getting your kicks on Route 66 in a '66! BTW, when I was a kid one of our neighbors, who grew up with my dad and has known me my whole life, had three 1966 Chevys. He had a Tuxedo Black Impala SS that he and his wife bought new, a Bel Air four-door sedan and a Caprice coupe. At the same time his father had a Marina Blue '66 Caprice four-door. I've told him maybe he ought to get himself a '66 Biscayne just so he can say he's owned the whole set! LOL! Lou, this was really exciting to see! Thanks to you and Rick for taking us along on your thrilling luxury-laden Turbo-Jet ride! P.S. In 1966, Chevrolet was the prime sponsor for "Bewitched" and "Bonanza", and if you've got a little over an hour to spare, I think you'll really enjoy this great old promo film here on KZbin for the 1966 Chevrolet cars and trucks featuring Lorne Greene. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lafEYYiYg7l3arc

The people behind our neighbors, an elderly couple, bought a new 1965 Caprice, 4 door hardtop, fleshy beige body with a black vinyl top. It had all the options like air conditioning and power windows. It was rare to see a Chevy with power windows and air conditioning in those days.

I love the car, love the rims and tires too - it looks a little mean with those. If I could dream up some different options, I would wish for power windows and bucket seats with the console - but the way this car is equipped and it's condition is still beyond what I would ever dream of in a Chevy. My first ever car was a 66' Impala 2 door hardtop with a 327, 4 speed, bench seat interior and it had the same steering wheel as this Caprice. It was re-painted midnite blue over the original marina blue and had the hubcaps that looked like mag wheels. Wish I could find another like it

Swapped in power windows, tach, tri-volume horn, tilt/tele, vacuum trunk release and most of the multiplex system(amp was damaged from fire). Had a 3:31 posi in it. Such a great car. I would put 3:55 or 3:73 gears in your car, will transform performance as they were choked by 2:73's or so iirc

In 1965, Chevy came ever so close to styling perfection. 1966 would see them hit the mark dead on...just the right amount of "tweaking" made the 66 Chevy absolutely beautiful. And it was the first full size Chevy to have single tail lights since 1959. Ordinarily, I'm not a fan of yellow cars...but this one is perfect just the way it is...and 390hp 427 under the hood, just adds to the fun!

I love these full-size Chevrolets but we rarely see much about them these days because the more popular mid-size cars get most of the attention these days. Thanks for a great video. @@thebeardedguyjefflawless5887 Late to the party here. The L36 427 390 hp was originally equipped with a Quadrajet carburetor, cast iron intake, oval port heads, hydraulic lifters, and cast pistons with 10.25:1 compression ratio. Conversely, the L72 427 425 hp was originally equipped with a Holley carburetor, aluminum intake, rectangular port heads, solid lifters and forged pistons with 11:1 compression ratio. The L72 was only available with a 4 speed manual transmission and air conditioning was not available with this engine. While I’ve seen the Impala SS with the L72 I’ve never seen a Caprice with one. Not to say none were ever produced but most were equipped with the L36.

That color is Lemonwood Yellow, I own most of those treats, and a few he doesn't. I have the Tilt-Tele tag, and a very rare engineering book, that belong to an employee of GM. I have Neve seen the plates and napkins. I no longer own my Impalla "SS" convertible. It was a 283 2bbl car new. It was Marina blue with white top and bright blue interior. I twas an Illinois car, where I from and a total rust bucket, when my older friend bought in the 80's.

Beautiful example. Actually, the intent of this model, even with the 427, was luxury, not sport. For that was the Impala SS. The hotrod look and sound is done well and the owner's preference, but I would have this car with the factory optional spinner-spoke hubcaps and thin stripe whitewalls, with a mellow exhaust sound. My uncle had the '66 Caprice wagon and my grandfather had a '66 Bel-Air 2-door that he owned until he passed-away in the early 1990's. On an ironic note, the uncle that had owned the '66 Caprice wagon acquired it and had it detailed! I have no idea where it is now.

@JC, Where I lived in East Vancouver, a neighbour and friend had the bronze 1958 Chev, or was it Pontiac wagon? His son played lacrosse with me, and Bill used to drive us kids to practices/games in it!

@@mr.blackhawk142 I believe the Chevy spinner spoke hubcaps are from '64-'66. It was definitely one of the nicer styled ones. Usually they were ordered on "loaded" models to give added touch of luxury.

@@mr.blackhawk142 Great story. Those 3 tail-lamp Chevy's were part of the American landscape for decades. I remember my neighbor has a '63 Impala sedan. White with a bright red interior. I recall being taken to school in it on a rainy day with a bunch of kids.
