In the 1960's, Chevrolet using it's advertising agency Campbell Ewald produced some very impressive introduction commercials. These commercials would air in prime time in the end of September or October from most car companies. They could be, sometimes 2 to 3 minutes long. There are several versions of this commercial, one is much longer.

The amount of money Chevrolet was able to spend on advertising in those days is staggering. The 1964 Monument Valley spot - and this one - doubtless cost a small fortune to produce.

I saw the most remarkable thing in an old episode of the A-Team the other day. An early 80's style Chevy Impala they were being chased by hit an embankment and flew into the air, momentarily transformed into a Pontiac Parisienne briefly while airborne, then back to an Impala when it hit the ground. Neat trick 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, that was the 'Chevy to Pontiac mid-air package'. It was an optional extra on the Caprice. I think that sold for $240 though you could always try to drive a hard bargain to get it down under $200. I have no idea what it cost on an Impala.

@@rightlanehog3151 it’s almost as good as the Challenger to “Camaro” package which quickly transforms your Challenger into a “camaro” before or during any wreck. You can see this showcased in the movie Vanishing Point (1971)

Just like how many times a newer car turns into a much older model when going over a cliff, and for some reason explodes in mid air.

I remember seeing some sort of dealership film where it showed everything that went into making this ad, all the custom work it took to pull it off. It was really neat. It was saying stuff like "and to get people into your showroom, here's a look at some of the ads we'll be airing soon" I remember them Talking about how that exploding Chevrolet at the end was custom made to explode as easily as possible!

You had the better one than my mom did. Hers was a four-door with baby moon hubcaps and two round taillights on each side to differentiate that we had the budget model. Great car though. She purchased it to replace our rambler station wagon that rest at the pieces in New England.

GM sold over 1 million Impalas (all models) in 1965, a record that still stands today. So yeah, they could afford to spend lots of money on commercials. The styling of the Ford Galaxy 500 was square and blocky in comparison, on reason its 1965 sales were ~550,000.

@@douglas1982b Is Teal the actual color? GM had that, and the Blue that were both kinda metallic and looked great on that body style. My older brother had a dark red 1963 Impala SS with the 327 around the same time. When I think back to the cars we had in the early 70's but they were just used cars. My old man had a black '64 Marauder that I remember too, even some of my neighbors cars would be high zoot rides today...

@@keithphillips211 -not in my opinion. First year designs were, with rare exceptions, the best. Then it's "change for the sake of change". The front end and taillights on the '66 were bland compared to the '65. It's not unattractive, just not as striking as the '65. I'm not really a "Chevy guy", but I rate the '65 Impala as the best looking full size Chevy ever built.
